Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi my doctors have told me I have type 2 Diabetes 2 weeks ago .I went back today for a review and I asked what my score was and she said it was 5.2 I thought that was pretty normal am I missing something

How strange, that is a normal figure. Not being rude but did you mishear or did they get it wrong. I would definitely be inclined to follow that up.

My only thought was that they be muddling the old with the new system, and the reading was 52 rather than 5.2. If 52 that is an indication of Diabetes, if 5.2 that is normal.

Worth a call to get to the bottom of it.

If that was the result of the Hb1ac test it does sound strange to me too. An Hb1ac of 5.2 in the not so new system equates to 33 .
As you probably know the Hb1ac is an average over the last 12 or sow weeks, as your so recently diagnosed it should still be in the diabetic range. , which is really jus
Or was it the result of a fingerpick test, if so it’s good .

I would double check if I were you , I wonder if they meant to say or You misheard and it’s 52 which is just a smidgen over the diabetic threshold of 48 (6.5 in old money)

Sorry guys I was getting myself mixed up and it was 52 not 5.2

Well you aren't actually classed as diabetic until your HbA1c reaches 48 - hence it means you've caught it before it's at an Aaarghh! level, which it can get to all too easily unless you make changes. It's already past the warning, pre-diabetes stage - so you DO need to act asap before it gets worse and gets into the area where

Hence if you make sufficient changes right now, and keep them (obviously if they're successful, dump em if not! LOL) then this bodes well - until you need to react again to something else happening, diabetes doesn't stand still even when we'd like to!
