Afternoon guys, hope your all keeping well!! 🙂 I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of a bigger carry case than the one that comes with the Accu chek aviva expert? it was a fine enough size but as the batter's have conked out on me a few times without the usual warning of low battery's there isn't enough room in it for my accu chek, tub of strips, finger pricker AND my ketone meter, here's the next thing, it still needs to be small enough to go in my cross body small reporters style bag as I've never been one that's been into bags and had to specifically buy this one for carrying supplies lol, any help would be greatly appreciated as always, thanks!! :D xx

@Kaylz - Are the batteries for your meter the button type? If som, couldn't you tuck a battery into a pocket in the original case? All the cases I have seen have had little sort of netting pockets for lancets or sharps.

If you usual meter fails, could you do a blood test on your ketone meter? Otherwise, would a cosmetic bag/pouch work?

No unfortunately it takes 3 aaa batteries, I have my meter under its strap, my tub of strips under its strap and same with finger pricker which is down the 'spine' of the case as they would say, I then have my Libre ketone meter in the little zip pocket under the netting piece but the case doesn't zip shut if I try and put spare batteries in, a cosmetic pouch or bag wouldn't fit in my reporters bag and I ament wanting to get a new bag as I love the one I'm using and money is an issue as well so I couldn't afford both even if I wanted to xx

The meter case in question is very small so if you're putting a ketone meter in it as well then no way will the batteries go in too.

Questions K - why do you need to carry the ketone meter 'constantly' ? Yes I do get occasional blood tests where that meter tells me to check for ketones, but as long as I take a correction of insulin, if I have any Ks to speak of, they soon disappear again.

Why can't you let the ketone meter or the batteries roam free in the handbag? Or alternatively - make a little bag out of something old eg a hanky and safety pin it to the outside of the meter case or the lining of the handbag?

Some people use a pencil case to store all their bits in, there are so many different shapes and sizes you ought to be able to find one that would fit in your bag, would that be worth a try?

I just prefer to keep all my meters in the same place tbh, dunno why its just become habit, and my ocd wont let me let them just roam free haha xx

yeah I might just have a look for one next time I'm in the next town, there's nowhere in my town that sells pencil cases!! 😱 lol xx

I enjoy making my own cases to suit exactly what I want.
Others have mentioned that they use small make up bags or pencil cases.
Treat yourself to whatever fits what you want to carry.

When I bought a new small handbag, I took along what I wanted to fit in and then in the shop checked all the bits would fit in: test kit, jelly babies in a bag, Libre swiper and phone for an evening out at friends, with spare pens and spare stuff for pump in OHs pocket. On a day out I need a bigger bag and carry the lot.

Just work out what you want to carry and find a bag that fits.

I have both of these, for miscellaneous things, I want to keep together. The zipper tabs are actually loops, so can be secured some place.

The middle one of the pack of 3 would likely be an excellent size.

Alternatively, I have several little pouches things like earings or the like came in. They look a bit like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-50-Bla...476e67be:m:mVjCpwD3uh3tCXE2QVrtQJg:rk:12:pf:0

You could easily attach the pouch (with batteries in) to your main meter case, using the hole in the zipper pull. That's easy to attach or detached, when you might not want to bother with the spare batteries (or whatever).

I would gladly send one to you.

That's one of the problems though, to find a suitable size I'd have to be able to see it and there is no where that sells pencil cases or accessory bags where I am :( even our only shoe shop is in the process of closing down

I wish I was creative and handy enough like yourself to make something like that!! 🙂 xx

I have both those IKEA items. The one you like, I have for my various cables/earbud etc for travelling in my backpack, and the 3 pack is also great for maybe gathering bits together in an overnight bag.

My OH detest (going to) IKEA, but whenever I go, I seem to have one or two things on the list for, or requested by him.

I'd love to go to Ikea but there isn't one anywhere near me unfortunately and as neither me or Bruce drive I cant get there!! lol xx

unfortunately cost is a massive issue for me xx

How about something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasi...DJ4/ref=sr_1_5?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1548703183

Seems like the kind of thing you might find in a market or something for a bit less, but £5.99 (plus P&P) doesn't seem like a terrible price. Can act as an upper bound when you look elsewhere (on eBay, say, where I'm sure there are lots of similar bags).

Might also be worth asking your DSNs just in case they have some suitable spare ones.

thanks but that wouldn't fit in my small reporters bag, and it would take a few weeks to even get that money together tbh as I'm forking out for petrol and parking costs for hospital appointments atm, yeah will ask them next week as due to see them Tuesday as haven't seen them in about 6 months and they are only at my local every 1st and 3rd week of the month xx

Next time you're near a savers see if there's a suitable cosmetic bag. If you get the chance to go to a pound land I got a nice, roomy cosmetic bag from there.
Next time you go to a supermarket see if there is a suitable pencil case. Good luck 🙂

yeah I'll be near Savers tomorrow but no money lol, all I've got is my bus fare to sign on haha, I'll get something at some point 🙂 xx
