I got a phone call from the hospital yesterday, for a flexible cystoscopy, tomorrow and then 10 minutes later I got another phone call from the hospital for a CT scan today, luckily I asked a friend if they could take and drop me at the hospital they couldn't today but they can drop me tomorrow. My daughter in law could take me today arriving at 10 am for my 1pm appointment, because I was there 3 hours early, I actually got seen at 12 15 because a patient had not turned up. if I had to get there on buses it takes about 4 hours and 3 buses for a 3 quarter of a hour car drive. I was lucky that I managed to tie in with my daughter in law's plans for the trip home. the only other way to get to the hospital is by Taxi this costs £30 one way, so today my daughter in law saved me £60. so the most I will pay for these 2 visits will be £30, I do not know how long I will be at the hospital tomorrow, but I wonder if not for a little planing on their part whether both could have been done in the same day!

Sounds like you’ve landed yourself a couple of cancellations, with that short notice. Hope all goes well tomorrow

Bit optimistic that, zodiacstar, as you’ve discovered these things have variable timings.

Best of luck with the Cystoscopy. It’s a tad uncomfortable, but easier if you’re female. No bends to negotiate🙂

It is because I have been having what they call gross hematuria I have had bright red blood in my urine 4 times in 2 weeks and the diabetes diagnoses also came out of that. Diagnosed 27th Dec. So the appointments are because cancer is a possibility, then you have to be seen in less than 2 weeks.

Yes I was told by my daughter in law that tomorrow I could be there and done in half a hour, or it could take as long as 4 hours, depending on if they find anything, etc, I was also told by my daughter in law whom was medically retired from ex company that supplied hospital equipment to hospitals that it being flexible is thinner and should be more comfortable than the rigid cystoscopy, this is what the NHS says.
  • flexible cystoscopy – a thin (about the width of a pencil), bendy cystoscope is used, and you stay awake while it's carried out
  • rigid cystoscopy – a slightly wider cystoscope that doesn't bend is used, and you're either put to sleep or the lower half of your body is numbed while it's carried out.

If it's any help, I had to have a urinary cannula inserted after an op, cos I wanted to wee but couldn't. I literally didn't feel anything except the nurses hand on my inner thigh so she could see my 'bits'. removing I some days later - exactly the same. It is a wider diameter than a cannula but honestly it wasn't at all uncomfy. I'm a wimp quite frankly, and I'm honest.

Yep, I’ve had a camera into my bladder for investigations for renal reflux. Can honestly say I didn’t feel anything other than slight pressure.

I’ve had it done too. TBH I didn’t find it uncomfortable. and I got to look at the inside of my bladder too.

Well unless you know what the inside of a bladder is supposed to look like - and I don't! - I'd be none the wiser!

The little bits where your kidney tubes empty (technical term) look exactly like teeny weeny pink volcanoes, you can see them emptying - rather fascinating if that’s your kind of thing.

I have now had it done. There are still some investigations, but today I could see with my own 2 eyes, I do not have bladder cancer! It was quite fascinating. and very clever. The only thing I could see which maybe concerning is the large lump that the camera had to go around, I think this must be my womb pressing on the bladder, and where the 2 ureters connect with bladder air bubbles flowed in with urine. It could be normal except I wondered after one of the nurses kept mentioning it to the doctor, and he kept going around the lump between the 2 ureters several times and agreed with his nurses. but he made no comment to me whether is was normal or not.

I am none the wiser either except I saw the walls of the bladder were smooth very veiny, therefore good blood supply.

Ah that's interesting because I would have said mine sank or pulled away from the bladder and across the opening a film of air which then has it expanded protruded into my water/urine mix full bladder as it broke away from the ureter in the new flow of urine it produced bubbles and there were also very small bits and pieces of something in the flow.

The question being - bits and pieces of WHAT? Limescale? LOL

@mikeyB - medical opinion please!
I have no idea, but I have seen cloudy sediments in my urine before. Also I occasionally use a commode when I do not want any one of my 11 cats to dash by me in the middle of the night to enter my bedroom, a few weeks ago I emptied my urine into the toilet to find it had separated out what was left in the commode pot was a thick colourless liquid and quite a lot of it. I have COPD, So was the colourless liquid possibly mucus swallowed that had been filtered out through my kidneys, neat sugar, or I even wondered if it could have been protein, although it was colourless it took a bit of washing to get it out of the pot. If I had a sample pot I would have collected it and taken it to the doctor for analysis. I wish I had.
