hi
I was wondering if anyone has been taking Invokana and if anyone has had side effects from them please?

I'm not on it but glucose in urine is not a good idea as far as I'm aware because it definitely encourages growth of vaginal thrush, urinary tract infections and hence kidney damage. Naturally, the body does not spill excess glucose over into the bladder until the BG of that person reaches 11.0 and stays there for a good while.

It wouldn't be my first choice of drug and that's a fact.

What else have you already tried unsuccessfully?

What about diet and exercise? What advice have you been given about that?

I found losing weight worked for me.
I did a tightly controlled low fat diet, then found the Newcastle diet.
I actually lost 5 stone, and seemed to have reversed my diabetes.

Hi Maggie I am not on that specific medication but I have just starting on another med that is in the same family of drugs. The only side effect so far for me is peeing for England and don't get much notice that I need to go to the toilet.

Yes, it’s probably the only class of diabetes meds that gives you the signs and symptoms of bad diabetes - peeing out loads of glucose laden urine, and consequent thirst. Sound idea, if you can live with it, but ladies do need to make sure to drink plenty to flush everything through. Men too, to a lesser extent.

Most of the reported “significant” side effects reported are very rare, and not reported in otherwise healthy folk, i.e. no heart or kidney problems, and no osteoporosis.

If I were T2 I’d be content to give it a go, can’t be that dreadful if the FDA approve it, after all.

We do have other members on similar medications and their experiences have been mixed regarding this possibility, It is specified as possible side--effects, so something that would need to be monitored for by your nurse or GP.

(I've added the medication name to the title in case people use a different brand)
