Hi @Billybach, could you tell us a bit more about the diagnosis? Did your doc do a blood test...? Welcome to the forum, by the way 🙂

Hello @Billybach welcome to the forum. Though this diagnosis must have come as a shock to you, being in the pre diabetic range which I assume your doctor means by saying * almost a diabetic*, this means that you have a good chance of turning this around or at the very least delaying the onset for a long time.
So please ask all the questions you need to about diabetes and we’ll do our best to help.

Their is an awful lot if misconceptions, misinformation and conmen around , so it’s good you’ve come here for advise and cyber support from people who live with the condition.

I had gone to docs re a blood test .I had earlier. She talked through the report and all seemed to o/k then I asked about diabetes (this was prompted by chat I had with a close friend who is also on the edge ) doc then went through the report again, that was when she said I was close to the edge.
She then gave me a low fat diet sheet, with a blood test form to be taken to hospital mid January.

I hope my use of forum has been correct.
I did not have diabetes test surgery when I asked about this I was told it's all in computer,

Hi BillyBach
I think the advice everyone will give is not to worry about fats but reduce or totally cut out all carbs.
Sorry but that means no white bread, pasta, rice, potatoes or anything made with flour including cakes biscuits and pastries.
Wholemeal bread and pasta is better because it digests more slowly but it's still a carb so be aware.
Root vegies like carrots, swede and parsnips can be high in sugar and also be careful with fruit particularly bananas and pineapple and definitely no grapes, they are made of sugar.
Many people find berries such as strawberries with cream or Greek yogurt can be eaten safely.
If another blood test is done in January you should notice some some reduction in levels as the test measures blood glucose levels over the past two to three months with more emphasis on the last two.
Unfortunately you have Christmas slap in the middle and I suspect not even a saint would be able to stick to the straight and narrow, l know l will find it very difficult!
Don't let them put you on medication, it's not necessary at this stage and you can beat this with diet if you stick with the change in what you eat.
