Hi Everyone,

I’m new to the forum but not so new to diabetes. Well, in a way I am new to diabetes because I was in denial of it for a long time 😳

At the moment I’m trying to get it under control (it’s Type 2 but needing insulin). I understand what to do but actually doing it is another matter. Please be gentle with me!

Thanks,
Gypsy 😎

Hello Gypsy
I think you are off to a good start.. understanding what to do is where the battle is, doing it is where you take a breath and ... do it. Trust me on this, if I can do that first injection anyone can!
Not sure if it was something I imagined but the energy coming back into my body after the first insulin dose was something I had never felt before, it just had to be done..
You're halfway there knowing why, now do the right thing..

Welcome gypsylee. Good luck from someone who has been on 4 injections a day for nearly all of his life. It keeps you going 🙂

Thanks @christophe 🙂 I’ve actually been doing insulin for quite a while, as well as the finger pricks (which hurt more than the insulin) but not properly, and sometimes not at all 😳

Thanks @HOBIE 🙂 The doctors are a bit baffled by mine because it’s like extreme type 2. I had pancreatitis in 2008 but they don’t know when the diabetes started and how much is due to the pancreatitis. Anyway, my GP thinks my pancreas works a little bit but not much. I’m cool with the long-acting insulin once a day, but I hate the rapid insulin (because it can give me hypos).

Hi Gypsylee Welcome from another insulin dependent type two. Mind you I am wondering as you have had Pancreatitis which may have caused your diabetes if you should be classified as T2 .

Of course we will be gentle with you, we’re a friendly bunch here who want to help and support each other as others have done with us.

A little more info would help.
What insulin’s are you on and Are you on fixed doses of the rapid or are you carb counting and adjusting your rapid accordingly.
Sometimes hypo’s are caused by the longer acting insulin (basal) this has been my problem lately all due to the hot weather making me more sensitive, so I’ve had to keep reducing it, I knew it was my basal as the hypo’s were happening long after my rapid (bolus) had run out. How long after bolusing do your hypo’s normally start?
Sorry for all the questions, You haven’t signed up to Mastermind by accident, honest :D

Sorry @gypsylee I didn’t get what you were saying.. and that is a whole other story I guess..
I haven’t been doing this for as long as you or a great many others here, but yes I can understand the feeling.. don’t have to be doing daily injections for very long before it all happens!
Everyone here is going to be gentle I am sure so ask a load of questions, give a load of examples.. I bet someone has been where you are right now and can give you a way forward

Hi Gypsy, Talk with your dietician. When I first started taking insulin I sent her food diaries weekly along with all the insulin I was taking. She then worked out how many carbs I could eat for each unit of insulin. Its not a perfect science but after 8 months I have got a general understanding of my body, my diabetes and feel mostly in control of it rather than it is in control of me. Keep tryimg and reading the forum
