Hi, I'm new to the site. Type 2 diabetic working for the emergency ambulance service & I have to be able to prove my BM if required for being blue light trained.

I was recently given the Contour Next one BM tester that is much easier to use, the ability to place a 2nd droplet of blood if required is much better than the Accu-Chek I currently use. At times I've wasted many strips due to continual error notifications. With the minute amount of blood the contour requires I've also much less chance of acquiring a health care related illness.

I guess I'm here asking if anyone in the West Yorkshire area has managed to get the strips on prescription from there GP's as a type 2 diabetic?

Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to help me with this issue.

Who is actually saying there is an issue with supply? If it's the GP then or pharmacy then ring the manufacture and ask them.

It's my diabetic practioner at the GP's that states these are not listed as available. I did contact Contour who gave me some support which I used when talking to her. But she still said she was unable to authorise them purely down to the cost. After the 2nd asking I recontacted Contour but I didn't get any more response from them. Thanks for the advice though.

Some CCG restrict which strips can be prescribed, why don't you check with them.

Hi Paul it sounds to me as if it's the CCG who have decided in their wisdom to only allow certain test strips.
Email the CCG and ask their policy on the test strips.
Explain why you want the brand prescribed and see what they come up with.

you say you wer given the meter, Who by
it the GP then WTF are they doing issuing a meter they cant support.
As you are working for the Ambulance service I would have though that you would have easier access to this sort of thing

I’ve been getting 300 Contour next strips a month for years (assuming that the Next One uses the same strips as the other Contour Next meters?) - any problems you have in getting them seem to be being ‘created’!

It sounds as if the test strips are not on the formulary for his CCG. Yes they are the same test strips for both meters.

It's got to be a Type 2 thing. Contour meters talk with Medtronic pumps so if you live there you'd have to have the Contour strips. Unless they don't offer Medtronics in West Yorkshire.
