Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi does anyone know if it ok for type 2 to do the shakes from diet now I have been on them for 5 days but can’t find an info diet now said they have no reason not to but consult doctor first well to get an appointment is really difficult usually 2weeks wait I’m desperate for help

Hi Lynne, welcome to the forum 🙂 It may take a little while to get an appointment, but your doctor is the person who will know your full medical history and whether it is safe and/or appropriate for you to try the diet. Whilst others here may share their own experiences, we are all different and what may be fine for one person may not be for another. Better to know you are getting approval from your GP than rushing into things and ending up with problems.
 
Maybe take a look at the amount of carbs in each drink - some of them are quite high.
Personally I think that eating a normal diet but reducing the carbs is likely to be more sustainable and effective.
Oh - I just realised that the name of the brand is 'Diet Now' - I'll look them up.
 
Good grief - 36.8 gm of carb in the first one I looked at, mostly from sugar, - that is what I have in a day, and I'm not all that fussed about losing weight - they are definitely not the sort of thing to use as a diabetic.
Diabetes is an inability to deal with carbohydrate - as a type two you can probably lower your blood glucose levels by eating fewer carbs, if you are lucky like me, you can return to normal numbers and diabetes becomes fairly irrelevant. I have lost about 3 stones in weight quite by accident, as I was concentrating on blood glucose levels and only realised I'd lost weight when my clothes started falling off.

Ha!!! Reminds me of the first time I realized just how much my body had changed..... Went to a wedding & wore a suit for the first time in years (it had previously been a little snug to say the least....) Found too late for alterations that the pants needed some serious help to stay up.... Fortunately my dress belt was from a long time ago (probably in my 20's) but still, I was on the last notch....
 
As above, no to the shakes...low carb, healthy fat diet I was told that when I joined here around 5 weeks ago and it took me a while to find out the foods that were ok, foods that were ok in small portions, and foods that were a no no. So five weeks on I have BGs well within normal range and I've managed to lose a stone in weight so far, all from the advice of the members here.
Without this place I would have been totally lost, the members give great advice...!

Yep 36.8 g and I'm not sure that includes the 250ml semi skimmed milk !! 😱😱 , which would add another 12g Carbs

Ive just noticed tho' the nutritional guidelines were for 100g of product and the shakes are about 35g so would need to third the values.
 
I’m not sure I understand why you would want to choose shakes when there are so many healthy and filling meals you could choose with less carbs, more taste and friendly to your bg’s o_O
