Odd symptoms. Neuropathy?

If you get a lot of pins and needles and discomfort in the foot, you can abolish it with a TENS machine. Worked wonders for me at the onset of my neuro problems, though I don’t for a moment think you are following my journey. TENS machines are surprisingly cheap. £25 or so.

The one thing that distinguishes your problem is that it’s not getting any worse. That’s always reassuring.🙂

I have had nerve conduction tests today on both feet and ankles and although the official results will take a while they said that the results were pretty good. They were impressed that my nerves responded so well despite over 40 years of Diabetes. So that's good but still no closer to an explanation. I have got used to it now so although it's still quite unpleasant I am not in a hurry for more tests. I will update if I ever find out more!

So sorry to hear your news @Flutterby. I have slight neuropathy in just my left leg - have been told that it can occur in one side only but most common in both sides but again that all diabetics are different - how often have we heard that - so great to be individuals but frustrating when it comes to diagnosing, treatment, etc.!🙂

Thank you, I do have a tens machine so I could try it I suppose. It's not pins and needles though now, that was immediately prior to onset of this problem. It is the tight feeling around my ankle and top of foot and slight loss of sensation. Yes I am glad it's got no worse.

My problem is almost certainly going to end up being a form of neuropathy but due to something other than the Diabetes perhaps. I am sorry you have some neuropathy, it is most unpleasant but isn't stopping me from doing anything which is what matters to me.
 
So, almost 7 months on from the start of the problem and my GP has now exhausted all ideas around the trapped nerve theory. The nerve conduction tests came back normal which is excellent considering 40+ years if Diabetes but my ankle remains tight and uncomfortable. GP now considering arthritis particularly as my hands have suddenly become very painful. So I now have to have X-rays of ankle and both hands plus blood tests. I will keep you all updated regards my exploration of many hospital departments!

It is brill that they did all the tests and there is no damage apparent of course - you have an excellent GP which makes a very nice change (and still always annoys me that I ever needed to move from K in the first place)

Great they are being very thorough with you Flutterby. Strange but I just had x-rays and ultrasounds done yesterday on my hands and wrists as I have all these nodules appearing on them (some painful but not nerve pain, some not) and bloods showed up zilch and as they are not ganglions so they are now querying arthritis too - though one is a swollen tendon I was told... Again poor old diabetes getting the blame and not the advancement of time:D
 
Thank you all. My thoughts are that the ankle problems are something to do with the tendon. It has been hurting these last few days unless I wear my trainers with orthotics in all the time. Whether this is caused by arthritis remains to be seen. My pain isn't nerve pain either Shiv, so the D is off the hook!

I think it may well be arthritis in my hands, it's pretty nasty at present.

Shiv let me know how your results pan out. I will update this as appropriate although I think I probably deserve a prize for the most boring post ever!
 
Glad that some things have been ticked off the list as ‘no problems here’ but sorry that they’ve not got to the bottom of it yet.

Hope the X-rays shed some light on things (or *through* things?? :D)
 
Well here I am again! Blood test results all ok apart from slight anaemia so repeat test needed in 2 weeks. X-ray of ankle is normal and the one of my hands shows some wear and tear of finger joints. I am getting a bit fed up of the wear and tear phrase as I have significant pain in the knuckle joint of my index finger on my right hand plus the wear and tear in my back causes quite a bit of pain. But anyway, no answers as to the symptoms in my ankle but he's not giving up! I now have to see a podiatrist in case I am still walking funny like I did as a child and otherwise it will be some other kind of "foot specialist" Watch this space, the saga continues!

I suppose the upside is that you are being properly seen to, by the sound of things 🙂 I hope they can get to the bottom of it soon, and that there turns out to be a good, efficient and effective treatment 🙂

Yes, I am visiting as many different departments as I can in a year lol. So far they have all been very good 😉
 
I am going to update you with what I was told yesterday. The podiatrist did a very thorough evaluation of my foot, balance, walking and all things connected.

He said that there is nothing physically wrong with my ankle so he feels that the very first thing my GP suggested way back in December might be correct. Another stroke. I don't want to believe this and after spending yesterday afternoon and evening in tears I am not thinking about it much. The problem is, it fits, it really does. I'm anticipating a call or letter from my GP once he gets the report.
 
Sorry to hear things aren’t good for you at the moment. I hope your GP (who sounds ace by the way) can give you some answers and support
