Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi just looking for some advice. I’m type 1 have been for 18 years, currently struggling with anorexia.
My ketones are at 2.6
Blood glucose 3.3
Scared of ringing 111

Have a Sweet drink. I used to drink bottles of milk. good luck 😉

So sorry to hear what you are going through @Laurah81 :( :( :(

Those are potentially very damaging levels of ketones, and hypo BG won’t help you think straight.

Take lots of fluids and you probably should go to A&E

You could also contact DWED who are a small charity with extensive experience of eating disorders in the context of T1 Diabetes.

Please also make sure that your clinic know how much you are struggling. You should get access to specialist support

I’d recommend something much faster acting than milk @HOBIE! Glucose tablets, Lucozade or even just 3-4 teaspoons of sugar dissolved in water would be ideal

Don’t be scared to seek help @Laurah81 - you have nothing to be ashamed of. You are I’ll, and struggling with additional complexity on top of the difficulties of T1. Please reach out and get help.

We are here for you.

Thank you I’ve never heard of DWED before. Saw my consultant (diabetes) yesterday and she wasn’t pleased with me. I have nothing in the house only Diet Pepsi, I threw all my food and drink out weeks ago!

sugar from a neighbour?

Or a corner shop or garage for full sugar soft drink

You always need some emergency supplies in ideally with something as unpredictable as T1!

Please don't make an argument out of it . It say Anorexic. Pucozade ? For the last 52years I have drank Milk & ate Digestive Biscuits when hypo.

You’ve a lot of years of diabetes under your belt Hobie. And you are absolutely free to treat your hypos exactly as you choose.

I used to treat with chocolate in the 1990s, even when I knew and it had been explained to me that the fat in the chocolate slowed down the carbs and delayed the response. Then I carried on out of sheer stubbornness.

But I changed, about 5 years ago and now choose high glucose, low fat treatments. And (unsurprisingly) they do work measurably faster, so I overtreat less.

Each to their own though 🙂

How are you today Laura81?? I hope you managed to get your BG back up to a safe level. Let us know how you areXX

Also wondering how you are, hope you got the supoort you need and you are feeling better.

Also hoping you are doing OK @Laurah81. Thinking of you.

Hi there @Laurah81. Been thinking about you since I first read your post. Hope you’re OK. 🙂

(Ignore that consultant’s attitude - you should be annoyed with them for not helping you, IMHO).
