Hi Everyone,
I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in July 2017. Both my Parents and two of my siblings developed diabetes in their late forty’s. I cannot tell exactly when it started, but I remember for a long time I was always tired. Overtime I started experiencing other symptoms including; feeling unusually thirsty all the time, dizziness, feeling sleepy after meals, frequent occurrence of thrush, inability to concentrate, dry skin, thinning of the hair, achy hands and feet and significant weight loss. So, by the time I visited the doctor’s I was feeling very unwell. After a blood test, I was told I had diabetes, my HbA1c was at 15.3%. The first week after my diagnosis was very difficult. I did not know what to eat and in what quantities until a got an appointment at the diabetes clinic.
I had an excellent medical team at the diabetes clinic who were very supportive, provided me with the necessary information and put me on a treatment plan to help manage my condition. I was started on Metformin (2x daily), Rapid and Lantus insulins. 3 months into treatment and with changes to my diet and exercising, my HbA1c level halved to 7.8%. 10 months on, my level is at 6.2% and currently off medications. I am now managing my condition using diet and exercises only.
The journey continues to be a challenge each day and every little progress is an achievement.
I just wanted to say hello to everyone on the platform.
Thanks
Agnes
