Hi,
I started taking Metformin, the standard type.. a few weeks ago now, building up slowly, but on the full dose, really been feeling sick and 'dodgy' tummy, so spoke to my DN and she has moved me over to a slow release version Sukkarto.
Has anyone used this? is it much easier on the stomach?

Thanks,
Mick.

Hi, I’ve not tried the slow release ones but I hope it works well for you. Sadly may take a while for the original ones to get out if your system.

I got changed over to s/r type and positive change was quite quick

sukkarto has a different coating on the tablet to the standard metformin that can cause really bad stomach issues, something to be wary of. The nhs is on a drive in my area to change onto sukkarto to save some pennies, if you can tolerate it all well and good but if you get the trots as soon as you start taking it, the shellac coating is giving you probs, and you need to tell your practice nurse you need your old prescription back

Thanks for the replies. . First day of taking them so we'll see how it goes... are there other slow release versions available and can i ask for them if this version gives me issues.. i suppose it depends on the practice.

Well first day has been really bad... very bad stomach, won't go into details but its not been good!! maybe its the coating or maybe something I've eaten..? but will give it another go tomorrow and if its the same then I'll have a word with my DN to see what else is available, but to be honest the original Metformin wasn't half as bad as this, so I'll take that...
Thanks for the heads up.

Mick.

Well been so much better today, so not sure if it was something I ate or if it was just the first time I'd taken Sukkarto..? see how it goes tomorrow.
On a plus... pre lunch 5.6 2 hr 10 mins later 5.6... first time that has ever happened.. but happy with those numbers.. Lunch was Chicken Salad and an apple.
