My insulin doses have rapidly changed since I am trying to eat better. last night I put in six units for 40 carbs and I was heading low after three hours. I used to put in double that!

This morning I woke with an 8mmol, always have insulin resistance and feet on the floor syndrome but that never happened and i have just gone low. I put in six units for 8 carbs which is what I have been doing for weeks.

I have already cut my nightime dose of levemir by ten units and I still drop by 4mmol overnight and now I am worried about my daytime levemir.

Can just by changing a few things in my diet do this?

Sorry to hear you are having s not of a nightmare with your doses changing @Flo15

Depending on what you have changed in your diet, it can have a big impact on your insulin requirements. As can warmer weather, any change in weight, levels of stress or activity and a host of other things!

Gosh all those things have happened! Stress radically gone down. Lost 1 stone in weight. Exercise gone down as I am too scared to leave the house much anymore as scared having a hypo.Cut out lots of rubbish from my diet ad try to stick to three meals a day as much as possible.
And just weighed myself and I have lost a couple more pounds. Stress has gone way down too, like from 9 to 2 on a scale.

Looks like you need to keep cautiously dialling down the doses then @Flo15 - certainly dropping 4mmol/L overnight would suggest you need a little less basal overnight to me.

Just keep making small changes - 10% or however close you can get to that in units?

Yes I think I will do that. I was on 44 units of levemir in january and i have been gradually reduced my dose to inject 34 units for the last few weeks Last night I put in 32 units and it was still too much. And then the trouble is I make sure I am higher than I should be at bedtime so I can cope with that drop. Going to do basal tests as soon as possible. Thank you 🙂

Hi Flo. EDUAD has given you sound advise , so I won’t repeat it. I just wanted to say well done you’ve obviously worked hard. My insulin needs have been changing rapidly over the last 2 weeks ( more like up , down and round the houses lol) so you have my sympathy.

My insulin doses have changed & lowered a lot too since January 2018! Just when the rush for Tax returns was in full flow! HAD to go out to get the Taxes done so, started carrying 2 mint humbugs in my pockets! I don't & have never liked jelly babies! I still have & make sure I have 2 mint humbugs on me when I go out!

I went through a period of sudden drops in BS at night & found having some peanut butter on a oatcake, or just the oatcake, very helpful for some sustained release to keep BS from dropping too much overnight while I slept: very scary to be lower than I like at night, especially living on my own!

Don't forget to wait 3 full days before changing a dose of Lantus again, as it takes at least that long for previous higher or lower doses, to be completely out of your system.

I'm on levemir, does the same apply to levemir ?

It's not half as bad as Lantus, but I'd still not change doses 2 days running unless the first change was a complete disaster and gave instant 'big' hypos.
