Maybe it wasn't that bad, but it just got to me...
Having been diabetic for the last year I'm used to people staring at me injecting and doing blood tests etc.
I just got my omnipod insulin pump last month and it's been incredible for me, I love it! I do get people asking me what it is at work and that's ok, and of course it occasionally attracts attention in class with beeping/ticking. I love my pump and I'm proud of it so I'm ok with wearing it on my arm when I have a short sleeved t shirt on and I don't really mind when people look at it.
I got a libre sensor today which is great so far, already saving my peppered fingers! My nurse put my libre sensor on my arm this morning and I thought nothing of it, I had my pump on my left arm and my libre on my right under my jumper and both were comfortable. Got a bit hot at home so changed to a short sleeved t shirt then went to vote for our local elections. Grown adults were staring at me...not even subtly, one even frowning. I smiled, just looked back briefly and most looked away but a couple in particular contined to stare and I felt really uncomfortable.
I will continue to wear my pump and libre where ever I like regardless but just never had grown adults stare at me like that - even teenagers are more discrete.
Rant over, this is definitely a very minor issue and not one which would usually concern me, and again not one which is a regular experience for me. Just needed to vent a little to people who would understand🙂

Loving my pod and my libre so far, hope everyone has a great bank holiday weekend:D

@Cookiemonster2017 everyone is entitled to a rant! lol, it's awful it really is, we were Christmas shopping when I felt low so threw my shopping at partner and mum and sat on a kick stool, shoppers and workers stopped what they were doing and gawped at me, actually made me feel embarrassed! Hope it hasn't gotten to you too much and I'm glad your very happy with your pod and libre! 🙂 xx

Sorry to hear about the very rude people who were staring :: Goodness knows what they were thinking, but who cares. No-one who is so disrespectful to you deserves any amount of your time and energy. I think I may have stared back to see who flinched first! 😱 🙂

Hi Kaylz, thank you for your reply made me laugh. :D I haven't done many things when low but did burst into tears saying "I'm high" in my first week newly diagnosed and back at college 😳was a little stressed at the time but in hindsight I find it quite amusing - especially as no one knew I was diabetic and there was no context given😛:D

Hi Northerner, thank you for your kind reply, don't worry I have perfected what I call my "can I help you?" face, but luckily I don't need it very often😛

I always do my best to talk to people who are disadvantaged. A smile is a nice way to behave. 🙂. I LOVE my PUMP too😎

@Kaylz I've had to do that walking round Tesco's more than once, so I've always headed for the shoes, cos there are seats here and there.

Being as you were in the polling station I'd have had to say 'Perfectly correct! - it is indeed exactly the same thing that Teresa May wears on her arm too! Thanks for taking such an interest in diabetes!'

Hi Hobie, thank you for your kind reply, glad there's more pumpers out there - I may need to borrow your experience if that's ok :D

Hi Trophywench, I should have, I completely forgot she has one as well! 😱I'll use that answer next time :D

@Cookiemonster2017 - the forum has a 'Pumping' section because there are shedloads of us been using pumps for years who might know the answer to a question, and happy to help where we can.

Sorry you’ve been made to feel uncomfortable @Cookiemonster2017 - you are using great technology to help you manage your diabetes better.

Unfortunately there isn’t technology they can use to stop them being insensitive idiots!

Thank you, made me laugh :D my mum says "you can chose when to be diabetic, some people can't chose when to be idiots"😛

Technically of course she's incorrect in saying that isn't she! However - I do know exactly how she means and agree!
