Much Missed Member
Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi Folks,
Been a member for about a month now. I have spent this time trawling through the
forums and I can`t thank you enough for the extensive advice available. I was diagnosed in
October 2017 after losing 3 stone in weight, in hospital for 3 days. I am 63 years old and I am
on Insulatard 52 units a.m. 14 units p.m. I am also on 2700mg. of Gabapentin, 60mg of
Duloxetine because of DPN. I seem to have most things under control thanks to this site, I
was introduced to DUK by my hospital team and they encouraged me research the forums.
Thanks for listening God bless you all.

Welcome and glad you posted. It's great to know people are finding the forum so useful, one of the 'benefits' of having diabetes! 😉. I am presuming you are on a mixed insulin - how are you finding it? For some it suits their lifestyle as they tend to eat regularly and similar things and having daily routines which don't vary too much. Others find it a bit restrictive as you have to eat to the insulin and they find it hard to match their lifestyle with fixed doses of insulin.
Good that the hospital recommended coming here 🙂

Hi @KARNAK , welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask any questions you have about diabetes, we’ll do our best to help.

Great to hear, and especially good to hear that things are under good control 🙂

I'm glad you found the forums usefull Karnak, and you are managing with the D.

Thanks Folks for all your kind remarks,🙂 I intend to follow the advice given in the forum and I am coping very well because of it.
I will post my medication and test figures in the general message board under my signature. Just one quick question, I am taking
CREON capsules would like any comments on members using these capsules?
Once again thank you.

Hi there @KARNAK I have to say I haven't had too many problems with the Creon myself although I have found that I have a diet that may be higher in carbs than some would prefer.

My reason for this is that I digest them more predictably than protein and fat which helps keep me in a more even keel BG level wise and also helps me keep my weight up at a reasonable level.

Hi @khskel Thanks for the info, I am trying to stick to LCHF but I am having trouble with bowel control. I don`t get much warning to go to the loo, maybe I should increase my carb intake? My BG level is pretty stable, 6 to 7/8.

I've got ulcerative colitis and I find that if I go too heavy on veg/salad, fat, salad and protein it can set it off. The trick is to find something that works for you. N.B. switching to MDI rather than the mixed insulin you are currently on may prove beneficial but I have no personal experience of mixed insulin so please feel free to disagree with me on this.
