In what circumstances do you mean? Do you mean as a correction? Or if you are going to snack? I personally wouldn't inject until at least 4 hours after my last injection as Novorapid lasts 4 hours, or longer for some people xx

I am not sure I have understood your question correctly.

It took me a while to cotton onto the idea that if I left at least four hours between meals it gave my body a chance to get back on target before I hit it with another dose of glucose. This is because my insulin took about four hours to complete its work. Before that I had just thought that so long as I balanced any carbs with the correct amount of insulin, all was fine. It was only when I saw what was happening between meals on my Libre that I cottoned onto this. So if you can wait at least 4 hours between meals it does allow you BG to sit at normal levels for a while. I hope that makes sense but if not ask again.

Will give you and example say if have a late lunch say 2pm but ready for my tea at 5 30pm is it still okay to take my insulin at that time instead of waiting till 6pm sometimes it’s not always easy to have your meals spot on time when your eating with others also

How long have you been diagnosed? I would say if you know for certain that your ratios are correct and your basal insulin is correct then there would be no problem with this, people wouldn't work to find round me so I now have to get up at 6:30 to have breakfast to fit in with their meal times xx

8 weeks ago was diagnosed but seem to been managing alright wouldn’t take insulin stupid amounts like an hour after taking it then taking it again an hour later nothing that extreme 🙂

Not yet no think will be starting that in the upcoming weeks or months down the line sounds very confusing with the Carb Counting but sure it’s easy once learned

I would be careful with the not waiting 4 hours then, I just worry that your ratios aren't quite right and you'd end up hypo, being only 8 weeks in your insulin requirements are likely to change, carb counting is relatively easy, I'm self taught and started a month after I was diagnosed, it all becomes second nature xx

That’s for the information really appreciated going my longest without a hypo at the moment not had one in 3 weeks so must be doing something right

That's great! 🙂 once things are more stable and you can adjust your insulin yourself in theory it should mean you have less hypos, but we all know here that just isn't true lol, you sound pretty upbeat for being so newly diagnosed so good for you! Great to have another friendly chap on board, I see from your other thread you've not visited in a few weeks or so, so please stick around and keep us updated!! 🙂 xx

Oh I didn't realise we were the same age! haha, I was diagnosed a week before my 26th birthday, you don't HAVE to give up drinking, eating chocolate etc, I eat some chocolate but the darker the better, I gave up the alcohol though and recently smoking too, what DO you eat? I'm not meaning to pry but I've gotten myself into a pickle with food and don't want anyone else falling into that xx

Eat anything really me drop me a personal message if you like rather than this long thread would be great to talk with someone my age with type one do t think there’s many on here all lot older 🙂

Hi Matthew. Your meal insulin is used to cover the food that you are about to eat. Whatever time you eat that is when you need the insuiln. If it is a bit before the four hours, you can either wait and eat later, or just inject with themeal and accept that you will be a bit higher than you might like.

These niceties are all details that you can sort out in more detail once things have settled down. It is still early days for you, but great that you are asking quests.

Well here's advice from an old un, diagnosed at 22 LOL - it's fine occasionally but not all the while is all. However as SB says, if your BG is out for a few hours after - just don't be surprised is all.

You've always sounded perfectly sensible to me, the way you're handling things but of course we all used to wonder 'what if I do whatever?' - and basically the way to learn what happens is try it, as long as it isn't something ridiculous. And - it ain't ridiculous! Like I've said before - try and err on the side of caution - you can always sort a bit higher BG out in a few hours time and you won't be dialling 999.

With some times taken the insulin 3 and half hours in before the normal 4 that’s just because am back at my mums at the moment so they eat at certain times you see taking it the half an hour early doesn’t seem to be bothering my levels in anyway they have been really steady recently hard ever go over an 8.0 now seem to be well inbetween the 5 to 7 range which am proud of that seem to have steadied it so soon

My body could still be producing small amounts of insulin though I know this will obviously stop in the end just a quick question am 8 weeks into the rest of my life now with Diabetes when your first diagnosed how long do they leave it before doing a HBAC1

It really depends, you may see a consultant in 6 months time (well 4 now) and they will do one then but if you are in regular contact with your team and they think your control is a bit tight they may want to test it more often, I was having mine checked every 2 months due to it being low xx
