Hi
My mum is Type 2, her blood sugars are bouncing around from a morning 5.1 to 20.5 this evening. Her health is ok (elderly with other conditions) and diet is controlled (by me). I believe it is stress due to my sister having been in ICU and not being able to go and see her.

Other than reassuring her and having my sister phone her and doing distraction pampering sessions I don't know what else I can do - or, indeed, if I should call out of hours GP.

Any suggestions would be most gratefully accepted.
Thanks

Seabreeze I would call the out of hours service get some professional advice & assistance...those levels are high...with other associated health issues & age...you need to err on the side of caution... I would definitely.call the out of hours service...they can advise & offer some reassurance for you both...good luck.

She doesn't want me to call the Doctor, refusing.
I'm due to test her again shortly.

Thanks Bubsie
I will see what her levels are when I test her soon.
It's worth a go phoning them, but if they say to take her in, I will get absolute refusal as she is in bed now.

That's perfectly understandable Seabreeze...she may not want to call the doctor out... or agree a home visit...there is nothing to prevent you from calling for some advice only...then take matters from there.

Thanks Bubsie
It's exactly what I would say, but when you are on the thick of things....!

But, why is it always at weekends when the surgery is shut?! I will phone the surgery on Monday anyway.

Alternatively you could call 111...just for some advice...no harm in doing that...your mother may not even need to know...that is what the service is there for.

might not need to know - my mum has hearing like a bat! :D

Just tested down to 14
My mums nurse said that between 7 and 11 in the daytime is ok for my mum given her age etc

well her tests went down to 10 last night and it's a 5 this morning.
See how today goes. If they rise again I will phone 111 and take it from there.
If they are in her normal range between 7 and 11 today I will leave it until tomorrow and phone the GP.

It's not easy when she refuses for the Dr, but when she is unwell I call the Dr or 999, she doesn't have a say in that.
But yesterday she was quite well, but her levels were spiking up to 20 and we've not had high levels before and yet again I discover there is more that I need to know. But with so much going on with my mum one tends to deal with the here and now and every day can be a school day.

I know you don't want to go against your mum's wishes, but when I went to the docs with a spike of 20, I was told I should have gone to A&E, so it it is still high, please get her some medical attention. My doctor had to test my urine for Ketones (lucky I had none), but if she did it can be very serious and needs immediate medical attention.
