Morning everyone , I just wondered if anyone could advise on what kind of fruit drinks or anything that could be suitable ? the reason being i now have a blood clot in my leg as well as type 2 and have been told to avoid any diet drinks with aspartamine in so not more diet coke etc ! or red wine at the moment ! Does anyone know any diluting drinks that dont contain the aspartamine stuff as most seem too ? Thanks a lot Jill

Yes I avoid aspartame.
This is the one I drink https://www.sturdrinks.eu/. Some are better than others: orange and mango is my favourite. It is stevia sweetened. It is weak so don’t expect it to be like squash but I like them as an alternative to chemicals
Sorry to hear about blood clot too. Hope you can enjoy red wine one day soon too!

Thankyou Sally ill have a wee look at that link and yes not great the clot and just when i thought i was doing well with my type 2 ! just dont think i can risk warfarin and red wine as yet !

I've noticed more 'diet drinks' now contain Sucralose instead of Aspartame. Still an 'artificial sweetener' but I haven't heard as bad a press about it. Aldi's flavoured waters contain Sucralose & some of Tesco's own diet drinks are the same.

Yes I’ve noticed this. I largely try to avoid sucralose too as I think it’s treated sugar, although seems better than aspartame.
What I’m waiting for is a stevia sweetened tonic for my occasional G&T! 😉

Thankyou Mark for that . Sally im guessing stevia is better for us then ?

Well, Stevia is 'more natural' but still a highly processed sweetener, but I haven't heard any bad reports like Aspartame. The big issue with Stevia (& other plant based sweeteners such as xylotol) is the laxative effect if you consume too much. I think that's why most diet drinks do not contain it.

Thank you again Mark , I guess most folks won't won't too much more laxative effect as the dreaded metformin can be enough for some !

Yes I cope with xylitol well in moderation......I did make a marmalade and almond cake last week - marmalade had sorbitol in it. 3/4 of a jar....l won’t be making that again

I once made some lovely chocolate cup cakes with chocolate frosting & used xylotol. I made the mistake of eating two started to feel my stomach bubbling up!😱 Eating just one had no adverse effects.

You might try some teas - I like mint and licorice, made quite strong and then diluted and cooled with ice water in warm weather, though this time of year I prefer it warm. I don't need to add any sweetener.
