Good morning,

I was just wondering if there are any other diabetics in the East Kent area that have managed to get a Freestyle Libre on prescription? I’d love to get one but simply can’t afford the ongoing costs. I know its been approved but my GP wont issiue vis prescription.

Many thanks in advance

Jon

Well is it the GP, or has the CCG declined to fund them?

There will be criteria for being eligible, Jon - so you could only be prescribed it if you meet the criteria - I imagine things like hypo unawareness would feature - you'll have to check.

I asked my GP, who had never heard of them, he referred it to the CCG they then said no. They said they saw no advantage of it over the meter I already have.....clearly, imho, the person at the CCG had no idea what it was either.......

My CCG has said a no, with no eligible criteria for anyone. I guess this may change in the future hopefully.

As far as I know here in east Kent the L.H.A will only fund a meter if you are type one or type two injecting insulin when they "upgrade you" to type one to get round the rules.
Don't forget they are flat broke, I had to wait three months for a scan when I broke my shoulder, by the time I had the scan the break had healed itself.
My GP. told me type 2s don't need to monitor their glucose so I ordered a Codefee off eBay, its not very expensive but the strips are £15.00 for a hundred so it soon mounts up.
My G.P. now has a diabetic nurse who started in January, I saw her yesterday for a foot check, they are calling us all in so I asked about a meter or rather the strips but she is toeing the line and said no.
She also said I must eat a portion of carbs with each meal as well.
