Hi I've just joined after being diagnosed a year ago type 2 diabetes. Hba1c test was 50 when diagnosed was offered metformin but refused to take it due to harsh side effects.

Second hba1c test was 40 reason it was lower was due to stress and not really eating much or drinking. My recent hba1c test done this week was 80 so very concerned. Doctor has given metformin again but I'm unsure again. Will be looking on the forum for personal experiences with this drug.

Hi I was pre diabetic for over 12 years then last year crossed over to having type 2 when my blood test was 50.

I'm less than 18 months since being diagnosed with hb1ac of 117. Next two tests were 42/43. I take 1 metformin tablet a day with no side effects and the rest is down to diet. Stress actually raises my BG!! I follow a low carb diet and try to be more active to control my diabetes.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Apart form a couple of days when I feel bloated I don't get any side effects from taking metformin.

Hi lactic acidosis is a concern due to me taking a water tablets the doctor will be monitoring with blood tests I also take stomach tablets for acid reflux. I have been prescribed one 500mg metoformin with breakfast for 2 weeks then reviewed.

Hi lactic acidosis is a concern due to me taking a water tablets the doctor will be monitoring with blood tests I also take stomach tablets for acid reflux. I have been prescribed one 500mg metoformin with breakfast for 2 weeks then reviewed.

I am taking tablets for acid reflux and was diagnosed diabetic last September with an Hba1c of 48. Medication hasn't been suggested yet but I have looked into and am concerned about how it will affect me in view of the reflux. Will be interested to hear how you get on, and to see what others say, as it is a hurdle I may have to cross

I have been on Esomeprazole for acid reflux for 3 year and when diagnosed with T2 was put on metformin. I tolerated metformin for about 4 months then put on gliclazide due to side effects of metformin. When the gliclazide eventually failed to lower BG levels four months ago I started insulin therapy. The Esomeprazole certainly keeps the reflux at bay. As I suffer constant abdomen pain with AIP I am unable to say if the diabetes meds conflict directly with the reflux meds. I have read that metformin can cause acid reflux but as I was put on reflux meds some time before the diabetes meds I am unable to say if the metformin added to the reflux problem due to the Esomeprazole working.

Thank you for the information Davein. I have been on Lansoprazole for several years for Barrett's oesophagus, and so far the reflux is reasonably under control. Just hoping that diet and lifestyle changes will be sufficient to bring my diabetes under control

I'm taking lanzopazole I have done for years and spirolactone thats why I was concerned.

I take Omeprazole for acid reflux & used to take it everyday. After I was diagnosed with Type 2 & got my BG under control, my acid reflux improved massively. I now only take them when needed, which is no more that 1 a week.
