I have been having symptoms of diabetes for over 4 weeks with them varying day to day but usually I am very tiered all the time, have constant headaches, bouts of extreme thirst and urinating, hunger even just after eating and dizziness. My hba1c results came last week and they were 42 and the doctor said that is okay but after researching i found out it was prediabetic. The symptoms are still there and it is making me confused. Had my blood sugars tested 3 hours after eating and it was 8.7. Could I have diabetes?
I am skinny being 5ft and weighing 50kg.

Hi. Yes, 42 is prediabetic. It is not OK, but not a disaster either. You have been caught early. All carbohydrates raise blood sugar levels, not just sugar. So you need to be careful with things like bread, rice, potatoes & pasta. As your GP doesn't seem concerned, I suppose you have no idea whether you could be Type 1 or Type 2 (or any type). Skinny people can get Type 2 though it is less common.

Hi Samiel - it's much more likely to be T1 when you are only 17, 50g and 5ft.

So then - how does the doc explain your symptoms and how has he told you to resolve them if it isn't diabetes, because it sounds to me like you are in the early stages of it quite frankly - even Type 1 does take days/weeks/months to build up, and the symptoms get worse as you go - if you have it.

The Only thing that says something else is you say bouts. Bouts mean only every so often to me. If it is all the time then yes diabetes is the favourite. But bouts could be anything. People urinate frequently with urinary infections. Excessive thirst dehydration.

Sorry, didn't notice you were only 17. More likely to be the onset of Type 1. Your GP needs to do something about this.

The doctor thinks that it is habitual drinking and that he doesn't know what could be causing the other symptoms

It is there every day but some days are worse than others

I would say, keep a very close eye. If it does turn out to be Type 1 diabetes, it can suddenly progress quite quickly. If you start losing weight for no apparent reason, or feel tired when you exercise ( I can only describe the feeling as wading through treacle when I was walking back uphill from the shops) seek medical advice immediately.

Thank you I will definitely keep a close eye on things.
