Well, when will I learn? I joined this forum back in 2012 when diagnosed with impaired glucose tolerance. Determined and scared I set about turning my life around and, with the help of the good advice and support of this amazing forum, I did to some degree. I lost 3 stones, changed my diet and managed to return my BG levels to ‘normal’ levels. But then life got in the way. I had a few big changes in life; I lost my beloved mum, had a couple of health scares and began to slowly return to my old ways. So, here I am. Back to my old weight, feeling rubbish (health-wise and mentally) and my BG levels back to square one! I feel such a fool. I am so angry with myself. I realise now that I can’t do this alone. I need support and guidance and if I don’t take serious action, things will get gradually worse. So I need to start afresh and hope that it is ok to come back to the forum for this support. Complacency has no place in a life with diabetes and I feel ashamed to admit that once considered normal in BG terms, I thought that things wouldn’t go back to where they were. What a fool I’ve been. I hope it’s ok to come back and that the good people here don’t judge me too harshly for being such an idiot! Sometimes it’s best to hold your hands up and admit you’ve messed up royally! And I have...!! Katie

Hi Katie, it's good to hear from you again - of course it's OK to come back! 🙂 I'm sorry to hear about the difficult times you have been experiencing :( No-one here will judge you, we all have times where life takes over, so can appreciate how things can go off track. The good thing is that you have a fresh determination to turn things around, so please do let us know if we can help you in any way 🙂

Thanks Northie. You have been such a great support over the years and for that I am grateful. You only pass this way once and sometimes you realise you need to take action and embrace every opportunity
life throws at you. This is one of those moments for me! I know there are many others whose need is far greater than mine - I am not so selfish that I don’t acknowledge that. However, there are also times when you need to admit that you can’t do it alone. So, I am grateful for this forum and look forward to checking in far more frequently from now on! Katie

Well done for being so honest. I think we have all stuffed up at some point, I certainly have!

Baby steps, one day at a time

Good luck sweetheart

Welcome back Katieb, you'll get back on track. X

All of us are only human. I'm pretty good on the self discipline, I like to think, but I still fell off the wagon a bit toward the end of 2017. I had been off all the medication for a few years but now I'm back on the pills again. I think that you have to start again from where you are now. Also I think that I can speak for most of us when I say that we don't judge people here.

Hi Katie, welcome back.... Hope we can keep you motivated....

Thank you all for the warm welcome back! Chris, that was hilarious - cheered me up no end! So onward and upward I go!

A warm 2018 welcome back Katie ~ so sorry to read about the loss of your dear mum and your other difficulties ~ we are all sent here to be tried don't you think? Please don't hesisitate to ask questions ~ as you know there's lots of experienced and knowledgeable folk here who are willing to accompany you on your second attempt to managing your diabetes. You made excellent headway after being dx so there's no reason why you can't repeat this success again. We're with you all the way Katie, so you are not alone.

May I suggest you buy a copy of the CARB & CALORIE COUNTER. Amazon £10.49. It's an excellent book with over 1700 photos of a wide range of popular food & drinks and a great tool for folk with Diabetes. It is really a very helpful book for those who are trying to lose weight too. Take care and good luck x

Hi Katie.....so sorry about your Mum ... life is sometimes so difficult we forget to look after ourselves. I too am Type 2 and had lost my way but thanks to this forum and the lovely people I am finally getting back on track .... although I’m not lying it’s a carb-craving pain lol. I struggle with anxiety and depression and it’s difficult to control your day to day life sometimes let alone count carbs but you’ll get there with the support of this community. Just be kind to yourself

Sorry for the loss of your mum Katie.
It’s easy to go off track, been there, done it, and been cross with myself. Baby steps and you know how to do it. Be pleased of how you did before, and your honesty helps others. Good luck

Welcome back, Katieb.🙂 Firstly, sorry to hear about your mum.

And second, don’t be so hard on yourself!😱 Life always gets in the way of our best intentions. And it sounds like you’ve had a lot of things to deal with. As Hazel so wisely says, take baby steps...we’re behind you all the way.😛
