Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It was something of a surprise as I am active, have a virtually sugar free diet due to fructose malabsorption and lactose intolerance. (Though as a result my carbohydrate intake is higher.)

Both my mother and brother were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about two years ago, so I am guessing the genetics are an important factor in the development of this disease. I must admit I feel peeved that after trying to live a healthy lifestyle I have acquired this.

The more I learn the more questions I have, but as I have been told my next appointment isn't for 3 months, I feel somewhat stranded.

Hi Evie, welcome to the group.... I would say that with this family history then genetics sounds very likely... I too thought I'd eaten well most of my life

Feel free to ask any questions, we are here as a support group & you will find that collectively we have millennia of experience to draw on (even if we don't always agree)

Thanks Martin, Do I have to ask questions on the general message board?
Do you mean, do you have to post to stay a member or can you just read posts (known as being a lurker)? No, posting isn't mandatory.

Or did you mean, do all questions have to go in general? They can do, although there are some specific categories you can use if you want to.
