I was looking at my ipad this morning when suddenly several black pin prick dots appeared in my vision which I narrowed down to being in my left eye. I couldn't see them when looking in the distance but they were very off putting when looking at my screen. After 20 minutes I phoned the optician who told me to go to eye casualty. The vision problem cleared up after 45 minutes but when I saw the eye doctor after a four hour wait he explained that there was new bleeding caused by the vitreous gel pulling on the retina - I assume he meant a vitreous haemorragghe (sp.).
He said the blood would reabsorb BUT if it happened again I must go immediately to eye casualty in case it leads to a retinal tear that causes a retinal detachment.
So please all of you if you have any sudden changes in your eyes get them checked out straight away, don't wait because if it is something like a retinal detachment very quick treatment is needed.

Really sorry to hear this Amanda :( I hope it doesn't happen again - well done for taking such prompt action {{{HUGS}}}

Sorry to hear this Amanda but glad to hear you got it checked out. Fingers crossed it doesn't reoccur. X

Sorry to hear this has happened to you Amanda but thank goodness you got it checked so quickly. The blood does start to reabsorb from the jelly and hopefully if was small spots they won't get in the way of your vision.

Like Stitch says, fingers crossed it doesn't reoccur x

I suffered this a few years before my diabetes diagnosis Amanda and Specsavers saw me to check things out. A huge web like discolouration came over my eye and I was terrified. Specsavers were absolutely superb (I saw the Clinical guy there who was in charge) and fortunately it settled. He was teaching a new optician and the examination I received was second to none! It is important to check these things immediately in case it’s a detached retina.

Sorry to hear this Amanda, glad they saw you quickly

Thank you everyone. I'm trying to be positive in that it wasn't as bad as it could be but I can understand how scared you were Amigo. I've been told to go straight to eye casualty if it happens again. Very difficult this morning having my morning phone call with Dad knowing that I needed to go to eye casualty but not rushing the call with him because I didn't want him to know that there was something wrong.
Anyhow, after a mini feeling sorry for myself I'm very happily drinking a Classic Champagne cocktail ready to start decorating the Christmas tree. Today has reminded me yet again to do the best I can to make the most of each day - not always easy but I'll get there 🙂

Thank you Hobie apart from supporting Dad I'm planning on completely chilling out and enjoying the build up to a very relaxed Christmas.

Well done AJ ! Enjoy Xmas. Pls tell your Dad we asking after him 🙂

Thank you very much Hobie 🙂

Glad to hear your are OK. My friend had flashing lights and was having problems with her vision so went to the Eye Hospital. It turned out to be eye strain but she was right to go just in case. The hubby of another friend of mine had problems and waited to see the GP who sent him to the Eye Hospital. They were horrified as he had a detached retina and told him never to wait for the GP and always to go straight there. They sorted it out for him thank goodness.

Thank you Maz2. I would definitely recommend that anyone who has possible symptoms of detached retina should go straight to eye casualty as quickly as possible.

I found out today that eye casualty have written to my GP. The official diagnosis is vitreous detachment and vitreal haemorrhage (I can never spell this!).
