Is there a meeting or group gathering for Diabetics? Might seem silly to have like an AA for diabetics LOL but might be nice to mingle and pick people's brains face to face!
Also, I've been told to inject only in my stomach, thighs and buttocks, but I know people to inject into their arms? Is that okay?

Hi Sophie. DUK have local groups if you look here. They tend to have, how shall I put this...a more senior membership. Depending where you are in the country there is Circle D Rocks here aimed at 18-30 year olds - I think it is London/SE based. There are also occasional forum gatherings around the country - just keep an eye out on here for those.

Injections are recommended in the fleshier parts of your body - so as you say abdomen, bottom and thighs but also tops of arms. My arms are pretty skinny so I have rarely used them. Just ensure you rotate your injection sites. Absorption rates vary between the different parts of your body so that's something else to consider but you'll soon get the hang of it.

We have occasional meetings throughout the year and try to spread them across the country, so keep your eyes peeled for details 🙂 They're just informal get-togethers where you can chat about diabetes without people's eyes glazing over, like 'muggles' (non-diabetics) tend to do! 🙄

Depending on where you live in the country, there's also a great organsation called Circle-D, which organises social events for Type 1s in the 18-30 age range (I'm guessing from your picture you fit the bill 🙂). Details can be found at http://www.circledrocks.co.uk/

As for injecting, you may find the following illustration useful:

Try to 'rotate' your injection sites so you're not using the same place all the time 🙂 Personally, I've only used my arms once and found it quite difficult to reach, so gave that up. Mostly I use my behind and top of hips at back, and tummy, around the belly button 🙂

p.s. I see Matt beat me to it with the picture! 🙂

Thank you :D I will look into it all :D Circle-D :D I didn't realise you could inject into the backs of your arms :D

Thank you :D

Hi Sophie

There is going to be a Forum meet up on 13 January at Yurt Lush in Bristol.
If you are anywhere near come along, or if further afield make a weekend of it.
Northerner will pin this to the top of the general message board so have a look.

It is great to be able to talk to others that have D, and just natter without having to explain.
There are DUK adult T1 Away Days. They are advertised on the DUK website.
I attended one in Glasgow, and it was well worth attending.

Have you asked your DSN? My hospital do meet up every other month, I attend if the OH isn't on late shift. DUK also run one local to me once a month 🙂

Thank you :D I will look into it all :D Circle-D :D I didn't realise you could inject into the backs of your arms :D

Only if you are double jointed or built like an octopus I'd imagine :D:D:D

There's a rolling calendar of things going on here:

https://www.t1resources.uk/calendar/

It used to involve DUK events too, but their website update meant they stopped publishing their events feed and they've not mended that yet. There are some local DUK groups in there though (and more who are hidden because they don't have any current events planned)
