hi everyone new here have had type 2 for nearly 20 years but am looking for advise re. police action that i encountered last night .
i was stopped by the police breathalised, passed obviously, but was then told that they wanted to take me to a hospital for a test of my blood levels , i was told that if i refused i would be challenged on my fitness to drive .
I drive for a living so i was not happy to say the least .
any thoughts ?

Presumably they gave you a reason for stopping you Matthew? Sometimes if the Police continue to have concerns, they will follow up with a blood test. That’s usually in case it’s drug related rather than drink. Unfortunately, refusal can lead to a driving ban in Court so best to consent even though it’s very annoying.
Do you take diabetic medication that requires you to test?

hi there they said that it had been reported that my driving was erratic thats why they stopped me yes i do take medication but didnt have any with me unusually.
my concerns are that at no time did they ask for my licence or address or vehicle details it was all about diabetes

Welcome to the forum @matthew Black. I echo Northerner's suggestion to contact Diabetes UK helpline. If you use insulin or other medication which acts to reduce bloid glucose levels, you should keep a blood glucose meter with you to test before setting off and every 2 hours in a longer drive, according to DVLA guidelines. Did Police ask about meter?

it was all about diabetes
How did they know you're diabetic? Why would it come up? Did they say the test was diabetes related? Sometime they do blood tests for drink I believe.
at no time did they ask for my licence or address or vehicle details
I guess those weren't an issue at the time.
