When I came out of hospital after having DKA & until a couple of weeks ago approximately I had a mainly green circle 🙂 & now it's mainly blue which I can really do without! BG'S are perfect & within target range at lunchtime then the rest of the time they are all out of range & in the teens ~ I've phoned my community DSN ~ she's had back to back clinics all week so she's having a catch up day today & once she's taken a look she will get back to me to let me know what she thinks & what changes to make ~ I need to do something because no way can I have DKA again!!

Sorry about my little rant!

Sorry to hear you are anxious Gill.

Are you eating much without bolusing at the moment?
Are you making sure you are correcting high levels?
When was the last time you did a basal test to check your background insulin?
Do your meal doses (and corrections if suggested) bring you back into range around 4 hours after injecting?

Hi @everydayupsanddowns
Thanks for the reply
Everything I eat is being bolused for ~ unlike before I had DKA & had poor control
Yes I'm making sure I correct for high levels ~ it's built into my Expert meter
Hands up I've never really done a basal test!
At the moment 4 hours after eating ~ from meal to meal apart from lunch time when levels are the best all other levels are mostly in the teens 😡

I posted on the Group 7-Day Waking Average that I've had some things changed on Thursday/Friday ~ the changes were only suggestions from my community DSN but I've gone ahead and decided to go along with them ~ Yikes!!
Levemir - bedtime dose increased from 6iu to 6-7iu
Lunch time ratio ~ changed from 1:10 to 1.5:10
Target range ~ from 5-10mmol to 5-8mmol

If your target range is 5-10, does that mean that you are correcting to the midpoint which is 7.5?

Hi Gill

It does sound as though your settings are not quite right.

A fasting basal test would help you find out if your background insulin is working properly.

As you are using the Expert you don’t need to immediately jump from 1:10 to 1.5:10 - you don’t need to keep the maths easy! A smaller adjustment of 1.1:10 or 1.2:10 might be enough 🙂

If your target range is 5-10, does that mean that you are correcting to the midpoint which is 7.5?

Yes - the correction suggestions on the Expert work the same as on the Combo.

Thanks that’s what I thought. I have changed my target range on my meter to 4-7 to make the midpoint 5.5 which is my preferred level. It means a lot more of my readings are out of range according to the meter, but it has reduced my HbA1c.

Hi @Radders ,
I believe that is correct. With the 5-8mmol if I'm correct it will correct me to 6.5 ~ if I'm wrong please will somebody correct me on this?

No that's right Gill. Expert/Combo try to get you to the middle of your range.
