Morning Everyone,
Last night got in from work about 5 half an hour later started shaking, if i had a bow in my hair i would have looked like a cold wet Yorkshire Terrier, took my levels 3.7 i ran round the house hands up in the air screeming food, food, first past the bread bin (three immediate slices) then past the sweet cubard ( the one one where the grandkids say can i have something) hand full of kit kats on my way to the Lucozade, i felt myself coming back i felt like sh**t for ages, didnt stop me asking whats for tea when the Mrs walked in so i survived my first one maybe wont eat as much next time. ( maybe) lol

It is easy to over treat a hypo.

Thanks for posting this Ingressus. I know not pleasant for you but now I know what to look out for etc. if I ever should have one.

You’ve come through your first one 🙂
They are not nice !!! so easy to over treat too. Then joy of joys comes the hypo hangover. Hopefully you’re feeling much better now.

Fruit juice if you have any is a good first choice if indoors, just dont glug it all down, a couple of swigs is all I usually need, then I go n sit down and try my hardest not to feed from the cupboards, fridge and freezer.

Do Remember to test every 15 mins and treat if necessary .

Scary moments, I agree. Had my first one a couple of weeks ago while I was out Christmas shopping with my friends and had nothing on me to help. My friend gave me a small glass of her coke and that seemed to send me right up the other way! At least it fixed it. Both my friends now carry dextrose tablets round in their bags, just in case.

At least now you know you can get through them and you probably won't panic as much next time as you know eating/drinking will fix it 🙂 hopefully the next one won't be as scary for you. You'll be glad to know you don't always get the hypo hangover (although I still haven't worked out why I get it sometimes but not others!). Do you know what caused the hypo?

It is not a nice feeling and takes about an hour to feel normal and over. It makes me feels like I am out of control. are you guys on the newer type of type 2 medications then? Really interested to hear more about your experiences of the newer types of t2 medication

I'm on Metformin and Glycazide, which is what makes me prone. I'd basically had an early breakfast, spent all morning walking around and then had a really late lunch, so I went too long without eating. Hadn't even thought about it!

It's good that you know the underlying cause, have you been introduced to carb counting now you are on MDI rather than fixed doses? 🙂

Type 2 on Insulin don't usually get access to formal carb counting.

Many Type 2 are put on Gliclazide which is not new but stimutales the pancreas to produce more Insulin. So can cause hypo.

Strangely enough i was told not to carb count which i didnt understand because i would have thought it was good for everyone, got a good book so do

Simon I'm sorry to hear that you've had your first hypo and I can understand your panic. However when it happens next time PLEASE try to just have 15g sweet carbs and wait 15 minutes before testing again. I know it it is difficult to sit through the horrible hypo symptoms but if you eat more carbs than you need your blood glucose level will go up too much much and you will end up on a rollercoaster of highs and hypos which will be horrible. I believe there is on an online carbohydrate counting course which somebody may have the link for or can your diabetic nurse help you? Please also make sure that you have fast acting carbs within easy reach wherever you are.
