2 hours post-meal, my BG reading 5.3.
Ate sparingly, mainly veg and chicken and prawns avoided the wontons and the radish. Ate a crab.
Was terribly nervous what my reading would be but quite happy.

Vince this is an excellent post meal 5.3 and you should be MORE than QUITE happy 🙂 food looks scrumotious ~ methinks a Chinese banquet at our local Chinese Restaurant is on the cards soon ~ very soon ~ knowing me, my bgls will reach for the sky after 2hrs 🙄:( but have to sample to find out. You ate a crab? A whole crab?

Yup WL a W H O L E Crab. Freshly boiled.
The food here has absolutely no resmblance to the Cantonese stuff we get in the UK. That is full of sweeteners and stuff like this.
The genuine Chinese cuisine is usually stir fried or boiled, as the chicken was, together with various sauces. Mainland Chinese do not like "Sweet things".
When Chinese friends come to the UK and I take them to the Chinatown in Newcastle they refuse to eat the food.

So what do they eat ~ or do they sit with you & watch you devour your chosen meal:D I cook my own stir fry meals with fresh veg & mainly chicken lots black pepper & mixed herbs 2~3 times a week ~ aiming to encourage youngest grandson to try it.

Oh I could easily eat a whole crab, I adore it! That’s a superb post meal level Vince. I don’t hit those levels pre-meal so it doesn’t sound like you’ve got major issues.

Having eaten in Hong Kong and Taiwan, it’s certainly true that the ‘British’ version of Chinese food is very different. Some of the names used for dishes here seem to be a very British invention! :D

In Short WL they eat everything and anything. Somethings you wouldn't want to know.

Hey Vince - as they say, 'Don't knock it till you've tried it!' LOL I freely admit I neither wish to know nor try it - cos I'm not that adventurous and to this end - diabetes can be a magic excuse sometimes as to why I don't want to.

I was also brought up strictly a devout coward !

Actually Jenny diabetes has already been a magic excuse to me. One I now I can refuse the incessant smoking and two, I have a good reason not get involved and avoid their constant drinking and toasting at busines dinners without blushing

Hello you! I have to admit Vince that I am a little *cautious* when dining out ~ I'm not too adventurous where food is concerned ~ tho having said this ~ I have been encouraged to sample Italian and Mexican food at our local restaurants ~ and admit the different & unusual flavours & spices are growing on me. So I'm more adventurous now😛:D and prefer to dine in those restaurants when we go out.

PS.......and my bgls didn't elevate as high as I thought they would 😛

Wl, not only have I been craving Baked Beans, I was in sever withdrawal for spicy, interesting and tasty foods. Variety.
I OD'd yesterday. Lastnight I went out AGAIN and had Dinner with a friend at a restaurant that specialises in food from Hunan Province here in China.
Only 4 dishes between us.
Black fungus in spicy vinegar, Egg and Chinese Chives, Wonderful boiled chicken soup with 1/2 a complete chicken, head included lol, in it and some very spicy Hunan brisket beef in chillie and garlic.
I did not eat sparingly.
Really pushed the boat out yesterday foodwise🙂
Did both my pre and post tests.
Pre 4.9, Post 5.4
Pleasantly surprised and somewhat relieved.

I have drawn the line at a few things that included for example turtle that they brought to the table alive for inspection before they too it away to cook it, snake that were still writhing around their cages waiting for selection and a "man" soup they served in Harbin in the North which is basically a soup containing reindeer penis's. That is one thing that is definitely not going in Vince's mouth.
Enough is enough and I don't care if I offend them at all.

Your story reminded me of a time when my father elder brother & myself were touring south of England way back. We booked into an AA Hotel in Bath~ took our cases to our rooms then back down to the restaurant. As we sat down at our table we noticed a large fish tank near the window. It was full of live eels and a middle aged couple were choosing the eel they would have for their meal. My father asked if I'd like eel ~ I shuddered ~ my shoulders hunched up to my neck & shook my head saying Noooo not on your nelly I'm not eating a live eel😱 I was thirteen years of age!!!

With numbers like you've been having I'm not entirely convinced you have diabetes Vince 🙄

Even if I have'nt WL, the lifestyle change is doing me a world of good to be honest, Slimmer, fitter, more energetic, clearer thinking all been driven by my goal of reversing this thing. I will stick with it and go go go :D:D:D. I needed motivation and this diagnosis, right or wrong, has really kicked me up the butt to do something and actually it has big style.

I said èxactly the same thing in another thread Vince and concur with all you say apart from the "clearer thinking" bit! I'm as daft as a brush and don't think straight sometimes :(🙄:D
