I got a nice little letter today from the docs, apparently I had a health mot, I didn't realise. Anyways my Hb1a is 44, blood pressure is 108/70 and cholesterol is 3.7, all these results I feel are pretty good. Now I have been to my docs on previously practically begging for help in losing weight, I have gone from 26st to 21st but this hasn't budged for months, I go to the docs who always just say I eat to much and the wrong things and basically go away and stop eating. The point to this is, I think these results show I don't eat junk, I don't sit on my arse all day, so why can't I lose weight.. I walk two miles getting to and from work daily...and more at weekend, I'm not lazy... do you think these results will make them realise, I'm sure there is something else going on...

I'm sure someone will come along who is more knowledgeable but can't weight gain be linked to producing too much insulin and your body not being able to utilise it properly?

I don't know. But from what I can tell, it's nothing like as simple as calories in and calories out.

Sounds like it's very frustrating for you :(

Hi Becky.... I found that IF (intermittent fasting) helped to jump-start stalled weight loss (admittedly IF is part of my daily regimen these days but I'm talking about when I was struggling to get below 180lb)

From what I know not at all.
and your body not being able to utilise it properly?
Insulin resistance, that's T2. In this case, the body finds it harder to be able to use the BG, including storing it, and the BG rises.

Now, when everything is working right, insulin allows the body to use and store the glucose/sugar that's in the blood. And if there's too much BG (after cake, treacle sponge, apple pie and custard), then that makes you fat.

Ok.., so am I being abit thick, I have presumed that now that my Hb1a is 44 and as docs put it well controlled that it means the insulin resistance would be less and therefore easier to lose weight or am I missing something

I will try to explain, but I may be wrong. Your lower HbA1c may not mean that your insulin resistance has improved. What it does mean is that through controlling your diet, you are reducing the amount of insulin your pancreas is releasing, therefore keeping blood glucose at a better level. Insulin resistance can improve with weight loss, but I don't think there is any correlation between an improved HbA1c & the ability to lose weight. I lost weight much faster when my BG was higher than I do now. I have stalled, but happy with my current weight.

I believe that's the other way around. Controlling your diet can reduce your BG levels, therefore possibly needing less insulin.

I think less insulin would help if your BG was low. High BG needs more insulin. That's why when you're hypo you don't inject insulin.

That's what I meant, I think.
