Quick question

Hi guys as some of you know I started the Libre yesterday, here's my problem, I'm not sure which meter I should be using to check my blood, last night at bedtime expert - 5.0, Libre finger prick - 4.4, waking this morning both meters with blood - 4.3, just before lunch expert - 5.8, libre blood 5.2 any advice would be greatly appreciated, TIA 🙂 X

That's Ok, just caught me before I go out. I've never had strips that fit my Libre so I just carried on using my ordinary Accucheck Aviva, because it was what I was used to. Don't forget that the Libre lags ten minutes or so behind a meter, sometimes if I've got a discrepancy, I swipe the Libre again ten mins later, and find it's spot on with the earlier meter reading. Also, my Libre readings have always been below my meter at levels under 5, and my Libre has been higher than my meter at the top end.
So basically, what I'm saying is, it's personal preference, but don't expect them to be absolutely spot on with each other, because all meters and the Libre are allowed to have a 10% margin either way.

(If your Libre starts giving you wildly different readings, though, and you need to complain, I think Abbot prefer you to have used the Libre built in meter as a cross check, rather than a rival's product!)

As far as finger-pricking is concerned, it's up to you Kaylz.🙂 It looks like both meters are giving almost identical readings, so neither one is less accurate...I carry both my SD and my Libre at the mo cos I haven't got round to finding a case for the Libre that's practical for flashing and pricking (oo-er Mrs).

In fact, you've done it again: asked a question I've been thinking about lately - get out of my head!🙄😛

I use my Libre for finger pricking, that way all the data is on the same chart when I download it to my laptop.

If you do two tests one after the other with the same meter and the same drop of blood it's highly unlikely that you'd get exactly the same answer! Just choose which meter you prefer and stick with that one. Libre sensor does lag a little so if your blood sugars are changing rapidly it will be behind, most of the time it should be reasonably close though. Agree with Robin, if the Libre sensor is way out all the time and you need to send it back, Abbott want you to have used one of their blood testers for a comparison rather than anyone else's!

I switched to using the Libre for fingerpricks as well as swiping, only because it saves having to find /carry a meter to do finger pricks.

How are you liking all the extra info a Libre gives.

I find that the Libre scan is generally lower than the Libre blood test, but not by much, and my Contour Next is generally 1 mmol/l above the Libre fingerprick. All are pretty much in the same region, so I'm not concerned by the slight differences. Remember that it is possible to get three slightly different readings from the same fingerprick because blood isn't totally homogenous 🙂

Not too much! Lol, its scared me as apparently according to the graph I have spent quite a while low during the night etc x

When mine was showing low overnight, I did a basal check esp during the night a couple of times. This showed up for me that I was lower than I would like overnight and along with other basal test results, meant I reduced the amount I had and now I'm fine both with libre and finger prick results overnight. Like the others, my libre reads lower, normally about 1- 1.5mmol , than my blood meter. the most important thing with the libre in my opinion is the trends it shows and the up/down/stable arrow against the reading.

I would def do some overnight finger pricking just to show that you are not going as low as the libre suggests. I've had a few red all nighters.

Like @khskel ive had a few red all nighters too. It is scary when you see that. As suggested do a few overnight fingerpricks .
If your meter shows the same then you need to act on it.
around 3 Am is a good time, keep your kit beside your bed so you don’t have to get up

When I'm a little higher than I'd like to be (too much lately!) I use my Accu Chek Aviva cos it always reads lower🙄...but as you say, big N, they're all pretty much in the same region.🙂
