Hi everybody hope you're all keeping well 🙂 it was 8.5 for me on Tuesday then..... I started with the sickness bug which hubby started with on Monday evening

27/9/2017
BG: 26.3 ~ waking on Wednesday ~ did sick day insulin
BG: 21.0 Tuesday
BG: 18.8 ~ did sick day insulin
BG: 15.4 ~ did sick Day insulin

BG: 19.6 Thursday ~ did sick day insulin
BG: 12.8 ~ did sick day insulin ~ waking
Basal insulin
BG: 12.3 ~ sick day insulin ~ ate x1 round of bread with soft cheese spread on ~ breakfast

Ketones
Wednesday 27/9/2017
7:51am 2.1
13:05pm 0.5
21:04pm 0.8

Thursday 28/9/2017
5:08am 0.4
9:20am 0.6

So as you can see I've had or still with a sickness/vomiting bug which has/is going right through the family because Daughter has now started with it.

Myself although the vomiting has stopped I don't feel like my normal self & I'm starting to get rather anxious because of my BG levels ~ my lunchtime BG for today was 15.0 so up a bit from breakfast when it was 12.3 I bolused at breakfast & at lunchtime. When will the levels come back down ~ I've been trying so hard since the DKA & it's been great seeing lots of single numbers again

Even though I've eaten bread for breakfast & lunch ~ managed to keep it down ~ but still don't really feel like eating ~is it too late to be doing the 'food & fluid intake during illness'? Though I do it at tea time
@Northerner I've run out of ketone strips but they've only just been added to my repeat prescription this morning. I'm going to phone the chemist to make sure they are delivering today. How often should I test my ketones?

Hi Gill no I think it is a good idea to be doing the food and fluid intake during illness now. I'm glad you found that advice, thank you for posting it onto the forum.

Sorry to hear you have the dreaded D&V 😱
It sounds like you're managing it well and the food and fluid info sounds good.
The sick day rules I've got say to test ketones every 4 hours. I hope you get your ketone strips asap and I hope you feel better soon.

Is this until they come right back down? Mine on a normal day are usually 0.1 then as you can they went right up to 2.1 on Wednesday & since then fluctuating

Re the food & fluid intake during illness what type of soup can you have ie does it have to be a clear soup?

Ps typing from my sickbed & I'm not going back to work until Monday when I hope I will feel much better by then

It says to check every 4 hours if ketones are 1.5 or over, I hope someone more knowledgeable comes along soon x

Ketone strips have just arrived so I will check when my next meal is due in 2 hours time

The thing I have to be careful about is when I was in hospital with DKA in August & had my first lot of ketone strips the DSN said "use them sparingly because they are £8 for a box of 10" ~ how can you use them sparingly when you are not well?

How ridiculous and downright dangerous! My DSN told me to order them regularly so I have a good stock of them, which I have.

It makes me frightened to even be using them & then if I need to be using them every 4 hours it probably means me ordering some more & I will be too frightened to because then I will probably be questioned as to why I'm ordering them ~ I've now got a box of 10 no & more than that

That's shocking 😡
Far cheaper for the NHS to fund your testing strips than subsequent hospitalisation. Please ring your GP first thing and ask for a prescription for them tomorrow, and stress that you're likely to need a fair amount as you are ill and need to test your ketones regularly to prevent DKA, which as you know can be fatal! Honestly get assertive and don't take no for an answer, this is your health we're talking about x

I've just tested ketones at
18:24pm ~ 0.1
What to do re this now?

BG:
12.4
Correction of 1.5iu advised by meter but I'm going to this along with my teatime bolus which is now but injecting after tea incase I can't eat all of my soup

Thank you so much everybody for all your help the last couple of days 🙂

So after my awful numbers the last couple of days here's how it goes
28/9/2017
After the 12.3
~
15.0
12.5
8.9 ~ Bedtime ~ within target

29/9/2017
7.7 ~ During the night ~ within target
6.4 ~ Waking ~ within target

Ketones are back to 0.1 which seems to be normal for me

So 🙂 🙂 right now I'm so happy that my BG numbers & ketones have come right back down again
