Relationship to Diabetes
Parent of person with diabetes
As some of you know, Riley was diagnosed in march 2016, so is reletaively new to life as a t1 diabetic. He is turning 11 next month but my partner and I have noticed that his memory is becoming shocking. Is this something that could be linked to diabetes? I know that he is at the age where kids don't listen to adults as much as they used to but I swear it's getting a bit worrying. Earlier today he couldn't remember the author of the Harry Potter series even though he is a big fan. There are more examples but this is the most recent as it has happened in the last 24 hours. Should I mention it to DN?

You could mention it to the DN if you’re concerned Stacey but it’s interesting that some parents do report this in kids approaching adolescence. It’s worth keeping any eye on in case you think there’s a connection with diabetes. You might find this interesting - seems to have something to do with the Limbic system;

Thanks for your reply amigo. The article is very interesting. I think I'm going to keep a diary of these episodes and then ask the DN what she thinks. Thanks again x

Memory is definitely linked to glucose imho. I thought I was getting dementia but they said no, just your glucose too high!
