I had a good appointment on Monday with a diabetic consultant that I hadn't spoken to before. He was so easy to speak to so for the first time I opened up about how difficult I am finding it to walk because of increasing stiffness in my back/hips and weakness from time to time in my legs which feels like a hypo but isn't. I explained that when I go out it has to be somewhere where there are seats every few minutes. I said that I didn't know if it was the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or diabetes. He asked why I hadn't said before and I said that the GP says about my weight - despite me walking Susie for an hour at a time until this started. Consultant said not the GP's fault but that the GP doesn't understand that the mobilitity problems cause the weight gain.
Consultant said twice that he is going to ask GP to re-refer me to rheumatology - I was discharged by them when they diagnosed CFS five years ago.
So glad that the consultant listened to me because the mobility problems are seriously affecting my quality of life.

Gosh you have had to wait such a long time for this help, hope you now get the help and support you deserve. Cheers to the helpful consultant and hope the appointment comes soon and the quality of your life improves.

Could you discuss mobility aids with a physiotherapist? Eg a shooting stick has a seat against which you lean or some wheeled walkers have seats which you can also use for carrying food, drinks, trays, books, magazines etc within house.

Thank you New-Journey and Copepod.
Copepod I'm being probably stupidly stubborn in trying to avoid mobility aids at the moment because I'm worried that will lead to me "giving in" to the problems - although my mum, bless her, had been trying to persuade me to use these aids before she passed away.

Glad your appointment went well Amanda.

More mobile seats than mobility aids...

Thank you Copepod. I took a deep breath on Thursday (about the cost) and made a private appointment with my town's best physio clinic. They've said no guarantees but they might be able to help me but it will take a long time if they can get me walking problem free. She has given me some very gentle exercise and I go back in a fortnight.

I was thinking about mobilit aids the other day, and about how at one time it was quite the fashion for people over a certain age to use a stick. You barely see people with plain walking sticks these days. Perhaps you could start a trend with a shooting stick?

Lol Radders I love to start trends 🙂
