Testing your blood sugar, leads to depression!

@Greymouser Members here who have been frustrated by their surgeries and resorted to self-funding tend to recommend the Codefree meter - which passes the same accuracy/reliability requirements as the more expensive meters, but with MUCH cheaper strips.

That is what I was told by others here, yet it only claims to be within 20% for accuracy, along with some very poor reviews, which makes me nervous, because 20 % is not good. I will think on it again, thank you.

I used the Codefree for 7 months and had no problems. None of the meters give totally accurate readings but all work within the standards required as everydayupsanddowns says. Really no need to buy expensive strips. Also, you are looking for trends in your blood sugars, in order to establish patterns and which foods affect you the most, so small discrepencies need not be a worry. I probably have some of the most expensive strips for my meter and pump, but find them no more accurate than my old Codefree.

I feel that is a fair point well made, looking for trends indeed. Thank you for diverting me from being a little OCD abut accuracy.

I think you need to bear in mind that ALL BG meters (until very recently) were required to meet 20% accuracy 95% of the time. And current ISO standard is 15%.

So all BG meters face the same accuracy challenges.

Perhaps the Pharmacist is saying the strips are unreliable on Amazon because you are not buying them from their Pharmacy.

I get quite suspicious of studies sometimes. I am at present pre-diabetic and have started testing to find out what foods upset me and what i can and cannot eat. I think I would be more depressed if, at the end of the prevention programme, I had gone diabetic because I had had no idea that what i was eating was not good for me and was pushing up my BGs too much.
