Hoping my Type2 Diabetes is under control. I have been an excellent patient, exercising and eating all the right foods and lost weight. Hoping there will be no need for self monitoring. But are you all good in the beginning, somebody wish me some luck today, Cheers Clive55555

Good luck Clive,,fingers crossed in The Steel City.

It's not a simple ride and can take time.

Thanks for the wish of good luck, Bill all the best Clive555555

Hi Clive...good luck with your hospital appointment today...well done on adjusting your diet & losing weight...wondering if you'd like to tell us a little more about yourself...how did you come to be diagnosed...are you on medication...are you aware of your blood glucose levels at diagnosis...if you'd prefer not to answer those questions just yet...understandable...however...that information would help members offer the right advice/suggestions on managing/controlling your diabetes...self testing your blood sugars is the subject of much discussion on the forum...routinely T2's not dependent on hypoglycaemic medications are advised there is no need to test...many reasons are given for this advice...such as you'll become obsessive...emotional...a regular blood test every three/six/twelve months is sufficient...since my diagnosis I have self monitored my BG...for me this has been an essential tool in exercising good control/management of my diabetes...it tells me what effect the food I am eating has on my BGs...it is still very days for you...there is so much information available to manage diabetes...it can be overwhelming...I can recommend a book I read by Gretchen Becker...Type 2 Diabetes The First year...she is diabetic...takes you through her first year from diagnosis onwards...month by month...answers many of the questions we all have...is it our fault (no it is not)...gives advice on diet & exercise...explains the benefits of self monitoring our blood sugars...contains a wealth of information...it changed my approach to managing my diabetes...do try to read it...post any questions you have here...there are many experienced type 2's on the forum who will be happy to offer advice & support...good luck...keep us updated.

Hi Clive
Well done and good luck. I am surprised you don't see self monitoring as a positive though as it puts you in charge!

Hi once again Bubbsie, A couple of weeks ago, NEVER even thought of Diabetes. Got UTi took a sample to the Doctors, they couldn't contact me, they came to house, sent for an ambulance. Spent about aweek on anti-biotic drips. Left hospital with Diabetes Medication a self monitorating gadget. Today I find out what my Diabetes is all about.(hopefully). I take GILCAZIDE 80MG + METFORMIN 500MG. No one in my family as had Diabetes, there is an IDEA out there, that claims Taking heart medication increases the risk of Diabetes by 46%. Anyway thanks for The Good Luck Wish Cheers clive55555

With the Gliclazide Clive likely they will provide you with testing strips & a meter...since the Gliclazide can induce hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)...necessary to be able to test your bloods using that medication.

Hi Sue Thanks for the Reminder, But stop driving 4yrs ago, due to Heart Problems, Dial-a-ride are in charge now. Cheers Clive555555

Hope your appointment goes well, good luck. I have my first diabetic appointment with the nurse next month, it's exciting isn't it? I still think you should monitor because how else will you know what you can eat and what you can't eat? I didn't measure after the Crunchynut Cornflakes but I'll bet it was in double figures but I will never know! How do you know which are the right foods? Just commonsense? I need me some of that.

Hi Ditto, The Doctor explained that something was High, I am hard of hearing even with my Hearing aids in. So it seems I am diabetic, I have to self monitor, take the medication, lose weight and exercise. Next trip to Hospital is Group Diet and Nutrition. Before that another round of blood samples, my feet checked and an eye test at my GP. So thanks for the contact, Good LUCK with your Appointment. Cheers clive55555
