Good News! well for me anyway...... My dry mouth/thirst seemed to me to be getting worse, starts about 12 noon and escalates until I go to bed! it sounds so silly but it is so horrible and I just couldnt stand it any longer, Docs agreed to give me appt with the nurse today, who confirmed that I definately DO NOT have diabetes nor am I in the pre diabetes range !! my fasting blood glucose was fine as was the HBa1 also. My choloesterol ok, as was all other bloods, no anemia, thyroid test ok too, as was blood pressure. So nurse was completely stumped and suggested I keep doc appt for next Friday to see what he says. I am very happy but still feel that I want my bg tested 2 hrs after I've actually eaten rather than after fasting, is this silly of me? are the tests i've had done sufficient ? The tiredness along with dry mouth so points to diabetes, as does my weight and lack of exercise. However I have had a lucky escape (maybe) and will def continue to build on my exercise and watch carbs. Thanks for everyones support on here its great.

Thanks wirralass, no I don't test as I'm not sure if I am diabetic yet, but most certainly will do, in fact I'm tempted to anyway, as my thirst/dry mouth is driving me crazy!! I didn't realise that foods affect people differently? how on earth can you learn whats good to eat or not? for instance I thought porridge was a really good one! ........ I have so much to learn!! .. also people advised walking after my main meal? does this help with bg or is it just for the exercise? I really appreciate everyones advise, thank you
Hi Mrs C - I advocate the book CARB & CALORIE COUNTER - I found and still do find it of great help - it has over 1700 coloured illustrated photos of a wide range of popular food & drink items. The Carbs - Calorie - Protein - Fat - Saturated fat and fibre values are clearly displayed in colour-coded circles below each photo. CARBS & CALS is the perfect support tool for carborhydrate counting - weight management - portion control and general healthy eating.

It can be obtained from Amazon for a little over £10. Its well worth purchasing particularly as you are in a dilemma as to what is 'good' food and what is 'bad'. There is a section at the rear of the book too with tips and more coloured illustrations as to what to eat when you dine out. Also there is a smaller version called POCKET COUNTER (Approx. £6.99) with over 750 photo's that is handy to pop into a handbag or jacket pocket - perfect when out & about.

Hope you find this info helpful Mrs C - good luck & do please let us know how you fare x

As an afterthought MrsC you might wish to Google the following website for Drinking excessive fluids - fatigue and increased thirst:

Hi Mrs C. The HbA1c gives a representation of your average blood glucose levels over the past few weeks, so this will include after meals as well as before. It makes no difference what time you have it done or whether you have just eaten. Did the nurse tell you any of the numbers?

Yes she did but I don't remember :( I was just happy to hear her say that every count was fine, as was thyroid, I even double checked! however when I see doctor Friday I will make sure I write them down! I just can't see why this thirst/dry mouth only starts about 3/4 hours after breakfast, it just seems so like it is to do with eating??

Does it happen if you skip breakfast? I was just wondering whether it's the time rather than the food that's the trigger.

Reading through this thread I can see you are becoming more & more distressed & anxious regarding your dry mouth - and tho we have tried to help you solve the problem for you as best we can - I'm wondering if exessively thinking about your dry mouth is only exacerbating the problem thus your dry mouth becomes less and less moist as the day progresses.

I'm not medically qualified to advise you as to your symptoms and don't quote me on this - but I am wondering if your symptoms are related to anxiety. Dry mouth is also associated with other condions not necessarily with anxiety or diabetes but perhaps you could bring this into your discussion with your GP at your next appointment.

Also I note you have commented several times that you would like to test your bgls notwithstanding the good result of your HbAa1c bloods. Theres nothing wrong with this IMO but if it will make you happier then again you would need to mention this to your GP. I doubt he/she will supply you with a test kit but there's no harm in asking. Should your GP refuse you the kit and if you are in a position to do so - you can self fund one of your own. I believe @Ljc & @Bubbsie will give you the link and relevant info.

I truly hope your GP can diagnose your symptoms as they are obviously driving you to distraction. You take care now Mrs C and do please update us following your appointment with your GP. x

Thanks Wirralass, I too was thinking that the more I worry about it the worse it will become, but just saying to myself 'dont worry' just does not help! it is truly a physical thing!! anyway days after seeing nurse with her reassurance, for two days I was back to normal !! yay, its gone... luckily, I kept docs appt for today as yesterday dry mouth returned!!......... Doc has confirmed the blood tests taken (it was a big yearly one for nearly everything!) and all was ok, he explained the Hba1 test which was 38 ?? thats good I believe and how it dosen't matter when its taken.. He said watching my diet and stepping up exercise is only a good thing, tiredness may be to do with ...snoring !! eeek again losing weight will help there. I wouldn't say I'm massively overweight but could do with about 2 stone off! doc says 10lbs will be good. He suggest I suck a salivary stimulant pastille...sugar free of course....hmmm

38 is fine and not classed as pre-diabetic. I was told I was pre-diabetic when it was 43 but some say 42. 38 definitely is not though.

Good to hear all your bloods came back positive - its always a relief to get good results isnt it? I concur with @Maz2 thoughts re: HbA1c of 38 - and your GPs general advice especially re: salivary stimulant pastilles - anything is worth trying to relieve your dry mouth symptoms😛 I hope this does the trick:D take care and tho easier said than done ~ do try not to worry unduly x

Thank you everyone, update is ... pastilles do not help at all, well just as much as sugar free gum or a mouthful of water!.... However I have again had a couple of half days with no symptoms?? I just want to thank everyone for their input and support, I also feel a bit of a fraud as no diabetes, I cannot help anyone else with diabetes as I know nothing about it, so will leave all you good people to help the ones that really need it!!!

@Mrs C, I've joined the discussion late and you've had some great advice. Just a thought. Do you take any medication associated with dry mouth syndrome? It's amazing how many meds do.
Do you just have a dry mouth or dry eyes too? I suffer with Sicca Syndrome and have these symptoms. May not apply at all but worth a thought.

Hi Mrs C. I have just joined the discussion and the symptoms you have are very similar to symptoms I had when I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea. I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years later and the symptoms are very similar.
