Hi Lorraine. Welcome. This has obviously come as an awful shock to you , especially as they're saying they don't know if it's the kidney infection causing your high BG (blood glucose) or that you have T1.
It will become clear in due course. In the meantime insulin is the best thing for you to be on.
Your probably on some very strong antibiotics too, hopefully they will sort out the infection soon.
If it does turn out that you have joined our very select club , I wish to reassure you that once your on the right treatment etc ,diabetes is a manageable condition!! I know it probably doesn't seem like it to you right now , but I am telling you the truth !!!
Kidney infections make you feel pretty rough too (yup I got the shirt)
On here We have Marathon runners, marathon walkers, fell walkers, at least one guy who does Iron man competitions, cyclists who think nothing of going out for a quick 50 ish mile ride , we'll probably supprise you at some of the jobs people on here do, me I very happily retired 🙂.
Feel free to ask questions ok, we'll do our best to help.
