Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
hello all.
i have had type 2 for about 6 years, recently I have been put on insulin injections (lantus) as nothing else is working.
It is taking time to get the dose right and bring in the liraglutide to assist with this.
Feeling like a pin cushion what with the 2 injections a day and the constant BS testing that I have to do during the day and the odd night time test.
All this and the constant headache sweating and blurred vision ( diabetic nurse aware off dont panic) is making for a not very happy lady.
Once everything is balanced I know I will feel better.
One good thing is I am not thirsty all the time and up half the night in the toilet.

Welcome to the forum. Hope you manage to see some improvements with the insulin. If your BG is elevated it might be causing the symptoms you mention.

Have you been given advice on moderating carb in take to help the Lantus work well?

Welcome to the forum, kazkat.
Good to hear you're getting more sleep. Blurred vision is often when blood sugars change, either normal to too high, or too high to normal. Don't get new glasses of contact lenses until eyesight has stabilised.
Apologies for a personal question, but is it possible the sweating is a symptom of menopause, rather than type 2 diabetes?

Thanks for the reply .
I have not really been given any dietary advise from specialist but have been checking out myself and have started to lower the carbs and thinking about what I eat .
My blood sugars still have big rise and falls so the symptoms are inevitable I suppose.

About the menopause that has definitely happened already those sweats were so different to these ones.
I take my lantus at night 20 units now and in morning my b's is around 14 on going to bed it can be 20+ so it does drop alot and nurse warned me this could give me symptoms of hypo as I have had high b's for so long.
I can cope with most of the symptoms except the headache.

Hi Kazkat, welcome from another T2 on insulin.
It can take a while to sort out the correct dose for you. Hopefully you will start to see improvements in your BG (blood glucose) soon.
They don't want to bring your BG down too fast as it can cause what we call false hypo's, this is where your BG is well above 4.0 so definitely not a hypo but as your brain is used to much much higher BGs , it sends out panic signals as it thinks you're starving. if you should get a false hypo don't panic, they're not dangerous just unpleasant , sometime eating a small non/low carbohydrate snack ie a piece of cheese can fool the body that all is now well.

Just to try and reassure you. My eyesight went blurry within a few days of going on insulin. It took around a month to clear and now my sight is better than it's been for years. If you're worried , go to a reputable optitions to get your eyes checked but don't buy any glasses as it's likely they won't be suitable for you in a few weeks.

You'll soon get used to the jabbing and finger pricking, in no time at alll it will be like second nature to you .

thankyou so much it really is frightening at first and the headache and blurry vision has been horrible.
What you are saying about the false hypo's does make sense and it was something my nurse mentioned in that if I was to drop below 10 it would give me symptoms of a hypo.
I love cheese so no issues with that

Your symptoms will go in due course and you'll feel better than you have done for a long time !
It doesn't sound possible now does it , but it's true honest !
