Relationship to Diabetes
Hello everyone. I am full time carer for my husband who has been diagnosed this week with Type 2 Diabetes. His levels are 'sky high' doctors words so has been started on Metformin 3 days ago and now Gliclazide added yesterday. I will have a look at as many things as I can and then probably be asking lots of question 🙂 Thanks for reading Sue

Good morning Sue.

Good luck with everything.

Hi Chelseagirlsue...an HbA1c of 104 is approximately 11.7 in the diabetes range...ideally best to aim for between 4-7 mmols before eating and no more than 8.5 mmols after food...I've included the NICE guidelines below for you...helps to know what you should be aiming for:
Non-diabetic* 4.0 to 5.9 mmol/L under 7.8 mmol/L
Type 2 diabetes 4 to 7 mmol/L under 8.5 mmol/L
Type 1 diabetes 5 to 7 mmol/L 4 to 7 mmol/L 5 to 9 mmol/L

At 11.7 those numbers are high...although not sure I would agree with the doctor that those levels 'are sky high' (mine were far worse)...they are not ideal...however with some work they can be lowered over time...no need to rush...finding the right routine can take a while...ask any specific questions you need to...doubtless someone here will be able to advise/suggest a way forward...good luck & do keep us updated.

Thank you for the links and warm welcome. Found out that we are having an awful lot of sugar included in food which we don't need to have so working at whittling that away slowly. xx

I'm recently diagnosed....know what you mean about quick learning. In this past month, feel as though I can easily say, I've learnt more than in my whole life, re diet, etc. Best of luck to you both!
