Started taking this at start of year and weight loss is just over 2 stone
Is this the speed of weight loss everyone else is finding over 6 months ?

Hi Andie, welcome to the forum.

The weight loss you get with Forxiga depends to an extent on whether it is sole therapy or in combination with Metformin or other tablets. As sole therapy, the weight loss you mention is at the very limit compared to clinical trials, so you may not observe any greater loss. Of course, this is additive to any change you've made in your diet. There is a cost, you need to make sure your renal function is being monitored. I'm sure your doc is aware of this. Forxiga should definitely not be considered as a weight loss drug -.the weight loss is an unintended side effect.

How long have you been diagnosed? And, ignoring the weight loss, what effect is this having on your diabetes control?

Hi Andie,

I've just been put on Foxiga (10mg) and am also taking 2 x 500g Metmorfin.
The Foxiga was prescribed to replace the Glicazide that I was on but made me gain over a stone in 4-months despite cutting carbs and exercising more.
Obviously we are all different but the though of loosing 2-stone over the next 6-months sounds OK to me.
Did you have any side effects?
I have now been taking it for a week and all seems to be going OK.

Im on Empagliflozin, another SGLT2 inhibitors like the one that you are on, but also take metformin and gliclizide. Unfortunately I haven't had any weight loss since being on it.

Hi Stitch,

The gliclizide really screwed me up.
I had lost a stone prior to diagnosis which took me down to 15st. Happy times.
Put on glits (320mg) per day and gained a stone.
Had a whings at the Doc, said I couldn't understand the gain as everything I was doing should show a decrease in weight but was turning to fat.
He said it was the glits and to be expected.

Hence now the change to Foxiga.
It ****ed me off. On the one hand I was being told to loose weight, I had and then they put me on a drug to increase it.
Possibly its the same with you, 1 to 1.5stone increase is apparently normal with glits. Maybe yours is battling with the Empag and the effect is neutral?

I know the feeling. I lost almost 7 stone prior to diagnosis and since being put on gliclizide I gained approx. 3 stone back in 18 months!!! They have said that it could be weight neutral now with all the others I take. Ive reduced the carbs that I eat etc and have shown my gp food diaries etc but struggle with losing weight now more than ever. I have mentioned this every time I go but nothing ever gets done. Im not happy with my weight at all at the moment but feel like im hitting my head against the brick wall. Its a toss up between relatively good BG levels and weight!

I get on well with my Doc.
He told me that there are many types of drugs for T2, some are weight + some 0 and some -.
I asked specifically for weight - and he gave me the Fox.

If it were me, and now knowing this, I would have a real moan.
Cutting carbs and exercising more, we can do.
Selecting the right drugs is their bag. But they need to know what drives us to ensure the prescription meets the requirement.

The overall thing is that we with the 'condition' remain positive and that's easier to do if you are happy with yourself.
3-stone is still a hell of a weight loss.
I'm 6ft and at my heaviest was 17 stone. Then went down to 15 and am now at 16.
I'm aiming for 14.5 and hopefully the Fox and the changes I have made will get me there. We will see.

If your not happy then maybe a different doctor, if there is one or a different nurse would be able to help?
Either way a 'frank' discussion is needed.
Go get em Stitch!

Believe me, Ive tried everything!!! There are 3 gps that "specialise" in diabetes Ive seen them all, ive been referred to the hospital and they have now put me back to the gp. Up until about 4 weeks ago my waking numbers and most of my day time ones were above 11, they are now down to around 8-9. Ive struggled since diagnosis, almost 2 years ago now. Unfortunately they are relying on the HbA1c result rather than looking at the bigger picture no matter how hard I push for things. Im just waiting to see what happens at my next review in October now.

tablets =glimepiride 1mg ,sukkarto 4 x 500mg , lisinopril 1 x 2.5 mg
