Well tomorrow is the day for my hospital appointment. Bit of background information - my sugar levels have been constantly high for the last 18 months. My last check up at the doctors was HbA1c: 80. My doctor was not sure what to do next so referred me to the diabetes department at the hospital. She thought I may need to change tablets or maybe have injections.

I would prefer to stick with tablets and diet so a couple of months ago I started eating less carbs in my diet. I have definitely seen a change in my blood sugar levels since then and hoping this will convince the hospital to let me continue in this way.

Suppose I will just have to wait and see

Hope it goes well David and they find something to help you. Keep on with the low carbing! 🙂

David hope it's a fruitful appointment . Good luck

Good luck. I recently attended the Diabetic Clinic locally and found it very helpful. Hope you find the same

Will be thinking of you tomorrow David and hope your efforts to lower your numbers will reflect in your HbA1c result. Everything crossed that you can remain taking your current meds. Take care and do please post an update x

Good luck Davo...any decision to change medication should be discussed with you...as you say your levels have been better...hopefully this will be reflected in your next HbA1c test...obviously we all should heed advice given by our health care team...however...if you have lowered those BG numbers significantly...no reason why you cannot persuade them to let you continue as you are...perhaps part of the problem initially was the need for the right advice on diet...activity etc...good luck (again)...keep us updated.

Having the right diet is a high priority for all of us and that normally means keeping the carbs right down. Tablets are often needed as well but note that having insulin as a T2 can be counter-productive if you have excess weight as you may already be producing too much insulin but can't use it. In summary do target a good BMI.

Had my appointment this morning and it went well. The doctor was pleased with my latest results. He wanted to know how I had reduced my levels over the last couple of months so I explained to him about eating less carbs. Originally he said he was going to put me on injections but as he said "I seemed to have turned things round myself" so he is now happy for me to continue on medication and exercise. Obviously I will need to monitor myself to make sure I do not start to go up again but he is happy for my local doctor to look after me instead of the hospital. If I continue like this I might be able to come off gliclazide although he would like me to lose a little more weight first. As you can imagine I am delighted. :D (latest results in my signature)

One other thing of note he mentioned. He noticed I was taking Bezafibrate for my cholesterol. He said was going to suggest to my doctor I take a statin instead. Anyone here take statins?

FANTASTIC Davo - great news - very impressed with your HbA1c result - you did exceedingly well there. Good for you. Sorry I don't take statins, I have an intolerance to them. Oh and keep up the good work x

Great news Davo...well done.

That is FANTASTIC. Well done.

Firstly, great result, well done

Anyone here take statins?
I take a statin each day - Lipitor. I am having my second blood test at the end of this month so will see if it's made a difference.
