Hey all

So, I'm in for a long night of testing... changed my set (was 5 something at set change) - got caught up with my son, threw dinner on (not the healthiest - Chinese), then tested and realised that I was 14.9....
Dinner was cooked so didn't want it to go to waste so stupidly bolused and ate... then thought about it a bit more, decided to test again - heading upwards 15.5 (could be the food, could be set fail)...
So decided rather than risk it I'll change my set. Then also decided it would be sensible to bolus some extra in case my other set had failed and I didn't want to sky rocket.

My dilemma now though is do I just keep testing (I'm dropping nicely now at 8.3). This all started at 8.15pm so it's been 2 hours so theoretically I could have a huge amount of active insulin working its magic in me or I could have next to none.

Theory right now is I keep testing every hour and react as necessary... BUT... my son is going to wake me up at 6am and we have a manic day tomorrow so I could really do with some sleep soon... So, I could eat enough to counteract the second lot of bolus on my new set and then deal with a high in the morning??

I know I should probably test all night but I'm sort of hoping I don't have to!

Thoughts??
 
Also I know I didn't react in the most sensible of ways and should have set changed before eating etc etc etc... it's just when things tend to go south with me it happens incredibly quickly and I just didn't apply the best logic tonight
 
Hey Grainger, what a pain in the bottom. I guess I would compromise and wait up a bit to see which direction I was going in, and then set the alarm for 3 am just in case. With the alarm set, hopefully I would sleep on between times. Obviously I am very new to pumps, so I am sure more experienced people will come along. Have a great day tomorrow 🙂
 
Thanks @stephknits I'm still dropping so I think I'm going to stay up for the next hour then test, react (I think I may end up eating) then do 3am and try to get some sleep in between! Hope you also have a great day tomorrow (oh and enjoy the pump 🙂 I'm only 8 months in but I absolutely LOVE mine even when I go through mini issues like this!)
 
Best of luck, I think if it were me, and I was dropping I would have a little snack. With a big day tomorrow I guess I would rather ere on the side of caution and get some sleep!
 
When was your second bolus Grainger? Most likely it will be full-on at 2 hours, so you could check/carb top-up then assuming maybe 50% of the dose left to run at that stage?

Otherwise, as you say a 2am or 3am check seems sensible.
 
Oh... and... if you are not dropping fast you could consider setting a 0% tbr for an hour or so - kinda the opposite of a super-bolus

Second bolus was approx 30 mins after the first so 2 hours so I've just gone past that. At 6.5 now which I've been at for the last 20 mins so hopefully i'm beginning to stabilise.

Fab idea re 0%tbr - hadn't even considered that - thank you 🙂
 
I hope you got some sleep Grainger and that levels stabilised.

Another advantage of using a TBR is that it will definitely wake you up when it is over, as your pump alarm is often a lot closer than the alarm, and on mine vibrating as well.

Life at times ! Being T1 ? & KIDS. I would not be without them :D Hope you got sorted 🙂
