Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I have been told today that after being a Type 2 diabetic for 27 years, i am Type 1 diabetic. My blood glucose levels keep increasing for no apparent reason, and stay that way for 4to6 hours. Can anyone help with similar problem.
Cheers Joe

Have you been put onto insulin? What type?

Welcome to the forum Joe Fitzpatrick. If you have just started on insulin after 27 years of managing your diabetes with diet, exercise and tablets, it's very unlikely that you have changed to type 1. More likely you remain type 2, but have added insulin to your treatment.

Hi Joe. Welcome from a T2 on insulin. After many years on tablets I was put on insulin around 17 months ago as they weren't working , levels were 22ish.
It is not impossible for the initial diagnosis of T2 to be wrong, it's happened to a few folks on here, after as long as you though does seem strange.
How did your re diagnosis come about.

In case your wondering going on insulin was the best thing for me, I feel so much better in myself, You will too once your levels are under better control.

Hi everyone
Thanks for the replies. I was diagnosed type 2 1990 on Novo Rapid 18units. Dear 3times per day, Blevins 20 units x 2 per day.
No real problems untill recently, Age glucose 8.2, suddenly became 15+ first thing in the morning, now it is 30+ 25. ,22, 12 at bedtime.
I take 20 +. Novo x 2 but it has no effect. So Drs say i have become insulin Resistant.
Is this because i was wrongly Diagnosed. Anyone with similar problems.

Hi. Most of us T2s have insulin resistance, some much more than others.
Just a thought. I see you're on fixed doses. Do you eat the same amount of carbohydrates for meals,

Joe, are you saying you were put on insulin when you were diagnosed?

Insulin resistance is a type two thing but insulin when newly diagnosed is nearly always a type one thing. I wonder if it was actually the other way, if you were type one (but maybe told you were type 2 because of your age, as that does happen) but as you've gotten older, you have started to develop resistance to your insulin.
