The Codefree (Amazon) is very popular and probably the cheapest. Test strips also cheapest available.

Well have the Freestyle Optium Neo. It can test your glucose and ketones. It seems a pretty nifty device to be honest .

To tell the truth it's probably fantastic - I just haven't read up on the instructions and used it to its full potential. It even came with a usb cord so I can rig it up to a computer - presumably to check data / levels etc

I've no idea how much it cost to buy or run I am afraid. I got it free, lucky me.

Good luck with finding a decent gizmo.

Sean

Yes as @Browser says to self fund the SD CodeFree meter is the cheapest we know of x

Thanks people.

Pink Floyd. Yeahhhhhhhh

If you get a rubbish meter and your levels go too low - yes you may think you are in the band Pink Floyd !

If money is no object then a monitor with bells and whistles and expensive running costs, (it might even play Pink Floyd, 🙂) might be the chappie for some folk. I wouldn't rubbish the cheaper monitors by suggesting they are inaccurate. Even the Codefree comes with a USB cable for syncing with a computer. Chaque a son gout.

I wasn't rubbishing the cheaper monitors, I was just jesting about 'Pink Floyd'
No offence.

No offence taken at all, Shoran. For someone new to this situation, advice on this forum might be taken literally and could mislead. I'm sure most folk will make their own judgements.

Hi. Before you buy one, I suggest you try to persuade GP/nurse to supply a meter and test strips.
As suggested the SD Codefree meter from Amazon or directly from Homehealth https://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/codefree-blood-glucose-monitoring-system-mmoll-or-mgdl/ is the cheapest one to self fund the ongoing cost of the test strips are around £7 for 50.
We use the mmol/l measurement in the uk and you're entitled to claim VAT relief.

Just like to point out I am nowhere near old enough to be in Pink Floyd (honest I'm not,,really,,, errr).

Curious, cos that's not really what it says on your Profile, Bill, are you sure? Although of course - you would be one of the youngest members!

I think you will find that the surviving Floyd members are in their 70s.

Though I can remember Follyfoot I'm not that ancient.

Bill.
