Cut my toe

As diabetics what would you do if you've cut your toe like I just have. I've cleaned it with an antiseptic wipe but not sure whether it will heal better if I don't cover it? Didn't know whether to see podiatrist but I'm loathe to put a shoe on it. I have mild to medium non-painful neuropathy but it flipping hurt when I did it!image.jpg
 
Hmm I might cover it if something were likely to rub on it but otherwise I'd leave it, before I was diagnosed I took a few layers off my knee at work and kept it covered so my trousers didn't rub but it couldn't dry out as it wasn't getting air so took a few months xx
 
Hi. It doesn't look too bad . However I think seeing the podiatrist would be best esp as you have some neuropathy. The NHS podiatrists have always been 1st class with my toes.
Having foot troubles myself it's made me paranoid about my and other people's foot problems.
Do you have any suitable toeless sandals you could Wear or ones you could cut down.
Speaking personally I like to keep wounds uncovered but it's not always best.
 
Thanks Kaylz and Ljc. I will keep it uncovered, unfortunately I don't have any footwear that can leave the toe uncovered. I must admit that I do get paranoid about my feet. I think that I will phone the podiatry clinic for advice.

Amanda...looks painful...but if you can...leave it open to let the air get to it...hopefully it will heal quicker that way...if you cover it...may weep...if it does...may be difficult to remove the covering...it's clean...just keep an eye on it...fortunately its in right on the front of your toe...so easy to see if any further problems develop from it...obviously if it begins to swell...gets redder...any sign of infection then call GP...or podiatrist...gosh...you could do without this!...fingers crossed.

Thanks Bubbsie. The irony is that today was the first day in ages that I was feeling properly relaxed...until I did this.

Excuse to go shoe shopping and quick stop off for a drink for the shock I think 😉 lol, hope it heels quickly for you and try not to catch a toenail on the scab when it starts to form xx
 
Ha ha good suggestion Kaylz but I dare not put a shoe on it to go out shopping in case it rubs. It's flipping lovely weather here and I haven't even got something suitable to put on my feet to go into the garden xx
 
It might be a good idea not to get toes wet they should advise you on this.
It a shame we don't liveclose as I have an unworn orthopaedic Toeless sandal that I'm going to send back as it's too narrow for spreading lefty
It fits up to a size 6 if you would like me to send it to you pm me.
Or how about a slipper you could mutilate.

Lin thank you very much about the shoe but I've just ordered a pair to be delivered by AMAZON tomorrow. I don't wear slippers but at this moment in time I wish I did......wait a minute ive just remembered that in Susie dog's toybox , which I still have, there is a pair of open toed slippers that she "borrowed" from me 16 years ago!! I'm sure that she won't mind me borrowing them back for a while!! I'm glad that you'd said about keeping it dry because I'd been wondering about that, typical that id been planning a nice bath today 🙂 oh well C'est la vie. Yay I can now go into the garden 🙂

Definitely not Lin. I just want to sit on the patio. Podiatry phoned a few minutes ago and although they haven't got any appointments they said that they will see me this afternoon and fit me in between appointments.
 
Hope you get your tootsie sorted Amanda. Good that they fitted you in.

Isn't that just typical...things start to even out...then this...if it doesn't present any further problems...it's just a slight...short lived interruption to relaxation...likely you'll have some idea in the morning...would consider a cover for bedtime Amanda if it's still weepy...maybe a loose plaster with an absorbable dressing?...let us know how you fare.

oops posted before I'd seen this...good news they've fitted you in...good luck...let us know how you get on.
 
Thank you everyone. The podiatrist put a dressing on it and gave me dressings to bring home. She thinks it is ok but said not to get it wet for the moment because that can make the wound bigger. She insisted that I get my GP nurse to re-check it in a week. In the meantime if it becomes redder, throbs or my BG levels go up then I must telephone the GP straightaway for an emergency antibiotic prescription and then go back to podiatry. I wondered why I hadn't had a six month appointment made as my last one was in October. She said that they are cost cutting so I'd been moved to 12 months BUT she said to come back in two months for a full foot check. I was so impressed with how well I have been looked after today 🙂

Glad you were well looked after.
When I went to the one here a few years ago if you did not go every year you had to be re reffered.
