Same as me then Lisa. What happens is that diabetes can cause abnormal blood vessels to appear on the eye (you can't see them). In the case of run of the mill background retinopathy, these vessels are well away from the important little region called the macula, so can often be ignored, and sometimes disappear of their own accord. However, when they are closer to the macula they need to be closely watched. As I said in my earlier post - they've been doing that for me for about 5 years! Hopefully, you will find yourself in a similar situation to me, and it will remain stable for a long time to come 🙂

I'm hoping they have caught it early and will be able to give me laser treatment have heard it's quite painful tho ! X

I've only had a very small bit of laser done, but it wasn't painful at all 🙂 Like a lot of these things, it's fear of the unknown and our minds run riot a bit! 🙂
 
So sorry to hear this, Lisa, but try not to worry, and keep hold of Northerner's experience and advice - it may not be too bad after all! The waiting and anticipation are usually worse than what we think 🙂 Lots of support and {{{hugs}}} from all of us xx
 
Lisa...diabetes is such a b***h...I have no experience of this...but...Northerner's post must have offered you a great deal of reassurance...as you say...wise to deal with it as it comes...as for waiting 3 weeks for an appointment with the nurse...why not call the surgery...tell them the position you're in...I'm sure once they are aware of your exact circumstances...someone...nurse/GP will be willing to see you sooner if necessary...good luck.
 
I actually went into the surgery and stood there whilst she went through appointments nothing ! X

Possible phone consultation Lisa?...might be a way of getting that receptionist blockade.
 
I am very sorry to hear about this Lisa and I can understand you must be very worried. I believe though that they can do so much more now than they used to with all the advances in medicine. I think these days they pick up things early so that they have more chance of avoiding problems later. Northerner is very knowledgeable, as always, and I hope his posts make you feel a little better.
 
Sorry to hear this Lisa you must be so worried. I too hope they have caught it very early.
 
Hope your appointment comes through quickly Lisa to set your mind at rest.
