The reason I am asking is that I am testing like hell at the minute to get the exact foods for me right and using lots of strips that the doctor reluctantly gave me.When I eventually find out what is right and wrong I will go back to testing twice a day so using very little strips.Don't want to go asking doc again so I really don't mind buying these online.I see some are quite expensive and the very same ones not too bad in price.Anyone ever purchase online and are they ok.

Jon I buy my testing strips online from Amazon...depends really on what kind of meter are you using...I use the SD codefree glucose meter...their testing strips are one of the cheapest I have seen at £7.99 for 50...others are more than double/treble their price...obviously these wouldn't be suitable if you are using a Accu check or one of the other makes...although it may even prove more economical for you to buy the SD meter & testing strips... than buying just testing strips for another meter ...which could cost you more than the whole kit from codefree.

I buy test strips online but i direct from my meter manufacturer as it is cheaper for me about £15-00 per 50, my Pharmacy can order for me but would be over £20, from them.

That is shocking that anyone, who is proactive in their diabetic care, has to pay for it.

Whilst I am still on insulin (which soon I hope to stop altogether) I am prescribed 300 every 8 weeks - plus my diabetic centre in the hospital have me 2 new AccuCjek meters just before Christmas.

Perhaps plus points in living in Scotland......

The ones i pay for are still cheaper than i would pay to buy the ones over the counter for my Nurse Prescribed meter. I only get 50 a month on prescription.

Where I am in Scotland I was prescribed 50 strips at a time, I phoned the surgery who put it up to 200, however I only received them once and was put down to 100, I got fed up of it as was at the chemist every few weeks as I've had problems and had to wait ages on things I always order when I open the last pot, called the surgery again and they have put me back up to 200 x

I buy the Codefree ones from Amazon at £7.50 for 50. On this subject, I'm sure I've read that diagnosed diabetics can get strips vat free. If that's the case, how do you organise that?

When you order from Amazon, you have to choose the box that says 'yes I have diabetes, and it offers them at VAT free price. If you tick the other box, the price goes up by 20%.

Thank you, will check how much the meter costs online, could be cheaper in the long run.Absolutely disgraceful for people who have paid their taxes and NI contributions all their lives to have to resort to this.In my case 43 years paying.I'm 60 now and started work at 17.

Jon...can tell you exactly how much they are...starter kit costs £12.99...but only has a small sample of strips/lancets in it...the strips are £7.99 for 50...lancets £4.75 for a hundred...I agree with you absolutely...it is disgraceful for people with diabetes to have to buy their own...I have been self funding mine for nine months...advised initially no need to test...accepted that...until I came here...got the right advice...took it... began testing straight after joining...finally I have persuaded my GP to provide testing strips on prescription...but...have been warned the local Clinical Commissioning Group will ask him to justify that decision...possibly stop it...I have written to the CCG...asking them for an explanation...still waiting for a response...how perverse...our GP's will not prescribe meters/strips for those of us not on meds that can cause hypos...yet will happily accept good control of our blood glucose levels/diabetes managed with frequent & diligent testing...hypocritical in the extreme.
