GP Is Finally Supplying MY Testing Strips On Prescription...

Well done Bubbsie, I'm pleased the GP has seen the light so to speak, and I hope the CCG don't cause problems. I am deeply mystified by the current position regarding test strips for people with type 2, if the person is invested in self management then how else do you know if it's working? The blanket ban is also self perpetuating in many ways, people who fund test strips themselves are then evaluated as a success for the "no testing" regime because if test strips aren't being prescribed there's no data to distinguish a tester from a non tester. It isn't just the bean counters either who are the problem, lots of GPs seem to have internalised the "testing makes you anxious" mantra. Sorry soapbox again, well done Bubbsie, I think it's really important to push this and I'm sure it wasn't the most pleasant experience, I'm really glad you won 🙂

Well done for your campaigning spirit Bubbsie! I'm not sure how these CCG's work. Do they scrutinise all individual prescriptions?
My GP has prescribed me testing strips and lancets from day 1 plus a meter and continues to do so without issue. Policies or the attitude towards this from the CCG has never been mentioned.
I'm reluctant to tip them off if I'm honest but should an objection arise, like you I'll be on to it all guns blazing Bubbsie.

Good luck! 🙂
Before deciding to write to them I read through minutes of their meetings addressing this matter...quite clear from those they do not 'approve' prescribing testing strips for type 2's unless they are on medication that may cause hypoglycaemia...my GP has said they will ask for a list of patients like myself (Metformin only)...then he will be asked to justify his decision...we had a long discussion...he suggested I write to them directly...felt it would have more impact...I was concerned about that...why 'wake the sleeping dog'...but...going to meet them head on Amigo...a point I feel strongly about...not just for myself...not everyone wants to test...however...those that should must not be excluded in such an arbitrary way...was promised a response within five days...heard nothing...so if no response by early next week...another letter & a complaint....watch this space!

Thanks KookyCat...exactly how I feel...such hypocrisy...told my control at the moment is excellent (not so sure about that)...couldn't believe what I was reading when I read through the CCG's meetings covering testing strips for type 2's...outrageous...so decided to bite the bullet...address them head on...whether it will produce positive results...who knows...but...would like them to justify their decision to refuse testing strips for those like me...would certainly make a change...wouldn't it?.
