GP Is Finally Supplying MY Testing Strips On Prescription...

Well done Bubbsie, if it takes all your litigious skill, it's worth doing. I haven't the slightest doubt your doctor will be challenged by the CCG.
 
Success! You are right of course, that by allowing type 2s access to test strips, they are then able to control their diabetes MUCH better thus saving the NHS money further down the line. I often think CCGs don't think like this though and may need reminding.
 
Long may it continue, you sound very well prepared in your response if they try and put a spanner in the works!

Thanks Rosie...your point of view...spot on...false economy to say NO...we'll see what/if any response I get.
 
Hi Bubbsie - Fortunately for me - when I was dx my GP prescribed a meter testing kit - and has prescribed test strips & lancets on a monthly basis ever since for which I am grateful - However should ever I find myself in the same position as yourself & similarly other type 2's - then I would most definitely feel let down by the system - so even though my circumstances are different to yours Bubbsie I am backing you all the way to the hilt and wish you lots of good luck with your endeavour to change the current 'legislation' (if that's the correct word?!) Take care x
 
WL...more an attempt to make sure I can have my testing strips on prescription...remain on prescription...nothing so grand as trying to change legislation (god forbid)..,just a small 'dent' in their policy of routinely denying types 2's testing strips...thank you.
 
Glad you're getting test strips on prescription. My DSN is very pro testing & has constantly tried to get meters & strips on prescription for all Type 2's. She did have some success in that all Type 2's on Metformin at our surgery are prescribed meters & strips.

Anticipating their intervention/interference I have just spent several hours drafting a letter to the CCG Chair, explaining why I believe it is vital testing equipment should be available freely to type 2 diabetics such as me (not dependant on insulin or oral anti-diabetics which could cause a hypoglycaemic episode) who need to test in order to reduce their blood glucose levels... delay/avoid complications... keep themselves fit & well....overall saving the NHS a considerable amount of money.

I feel strongly about this point...and would encourage all those who have had their request for glucose testing equipment on prescription refused...or had the number of testing strips restricted to do similar.

Should any of you wish to follow suite...you can obtain the details of your local CCG from your surgery.

Great news @Bubbsie well done convincing your GP; hope you continue get the strips you need but do keep us posted on how you get on. Good idea to make your point to the CCG as well. Thanks Stefan...had an acknowledgement from the CCG...they 'hope to get back tome in 5 working days'...we shall see...will let you know what response (if any)I receive.

Thanks SB2015...he has been such hard work...after nine months of discussion...a formal letter & endless patience...I had the first positive appointment with him last week...since registering at the practice in June last year... it's taken me longer than I thought...a great relief I must say.

Not at mine Mark...or several other local practices...seems to be a rarity in the diabetes world around here...no idea why some surgeries exclude type 2's so arbitrarily.
 
I get a hundred Accu Chek Performa strips from my GP as a repeat prescription. It was a job. Still I went to see him, he went off on one and I put my foot down and said I would "send the boys around!" He knows my military background and made a strategic withdrawal. Tell me in all honesty how can you even hope to control not only your health by your sanity if you are stumbling around in the dark not testing. Am I missing summat?
 
Well done for your campaigning spirit Bubbsie! I'm not sure how these CCG's work. Do they scrutinise all individual prescriptions?
My GP has prescribed me testing strips and lancets from day 1 plus a meter and continues to do so without issue. Policies or the attitude towards this from the CCG has never been mentioned.
I'm reluctant to tip them off if I'm honest but should an objection arise, like you I'll be on to it all guns blazing Bubbsie.

I'm pretty sure the policy is - blanket ban, then see who complains. Far easier to deal with than seeing to each individual patient's needs. 🙄
